OT-soda pop

I have recently started drinking soda pop again after almost 6 years of not being able to. Now my pouch is starting hurt like it did when I had a bleeding ulcer. I am currently on nexium, 40 mg once a day.

Could the pop be causing this to happen? I have a call into my PCP to see what he thinks. Anyone ever had this happen?

TIA

I was told by my doc. soda's were out all together. As part of life time maint. I had my "wls" a little over two years ago. Apparently they have the acid, and can stretch out our pouches, and of course too many calories.
I only do soda's once in while. But.... perhaps that's why you are having that extra discomfort because soda's are somewhat off limits, but we always push & go over our limits. However that's more then likely your problem. Good Luck, to you, I hope you feel better and try to do soda's only sometimes, surely don't make it a daily old bad habbit, cause when it's all said and done soda's are not good for us truthfully!

I drink a diet coke (caffiene free) almost every day.  I just have to drink them slower than I used to or they do hurt.

A soda isn't going to stretch your pouch.  Our pouches have an opening and an exit.   Liquids go thru us and don't stay in our pouch for very long so the air isn't going to build up and explode our tummies or anything.  :)  I think surgeons and nutritionist think we will go back to regular sodas and try to scare us with the pouch stretching myth.  HOWEVER, drinking them too fast, drinking non-diet, and drinking too many are not good for us.

1. They are fizzy and can take up too much room for a brief moment making us feel like we WILL explode.
2. If you've had this surgery and are drinking regular sodas, well, then you know why it's not good for you and hopefully you aren't complaining when the weight comes back on.  LOL!
3.  Too much soda can leach the calcium from our bones.  Plus, caffiene dehydrates so we have to drink more non-caffinated liquids to make up for it.

You could not give a rat's booty and drink them anyways!!  Many do, and for many, it doesn't cause any issues.

Good luck!

Does it hurt just while you are drinking or all the time? I know when I drink it and it has too much carbonation it hurts until I burp.

I agree with the PP about the diet vs. regular. I can't drink anything diet and if I drink too many pops the weight comes back on. Right now that's all I can get down with out wanting to spit it out. God bless ginger ale!

Thanks for all of your answers. I have not heard anything from my PCP, however, I am going to cut soda pop out of my diet again and see if that makes things better.

I went almost 6 years without one and then I guess I wanted to try and see if I could tolerate them. It took me a few weeks to be able to drink one straight from the can or bottle.

Thanks again, I appreciate your imput.

If it has caffeine, that can irritate your stomach and potentially cause ulcers.  >>>>As I sip my caffeine filled sparkling lemonade....ahhhh....
