Camping with a baby?
Pack and plays work GREAT for camping cribs - if you go to BRU you can get a mattress to put in the bottom for sleeping that is a little more comfy than just the mat that goes in there (Got mine in Folsom - they are over by the crib mattresses on the bottom shelf - sheets are over by the pack and plays on the end of the isle) . That is what we use - than just take it out during the day :) My other suggestion is that if it gets a little to chilly at night to layer her in 2 footie PJs - seemed to do the trick for Bailey last summer!! As for bug repelent - I used the stuff with deet to spray on her clothes, than used the Burts Bees all natural stuff to put on her hands, face and legs.
Have Fun!!!!!

We live off of 50 along the river - so that is my BRU of choice too!!! It is about 10 minutes from me - we are looking to move up the hill the EDH or Folsom - our best friends live in EDH and since hubby and I both work on this side of town - woudln't be surprised if we end up there soon.... just gotta figure out how to get out of the house we are in now, or make it a rental..... probably going the rental route. I love the new houses that Lennar is building in EDH - we'll see. Anyway - have fun!

My family has always camped. I made my first foray at 6 weeks to the Mojave Desert with my mom, dad, and various family members.
Agree with the DEET, we've always sprayed the tent and baby's outer clothing (air them for a few before putting them on, if it makes you feel better). Pack N' Play is the best for sleeping when camping (we stuffed my 6 mo. old cousin in hers last July 4th when we did the family reunion). If you have a sling, you might want to bring that, for the times the stroller may not be convenient.
Bottled water in the little bottles can be submerged in boiled water that is heated on a camp stove (left in the pot, after allowed to cool for a few minutes from the boiling point), and it will usually stay warm for a late night feeding, if you have a baby that is used to a warmed up bottle.. then again, they do have the insulated bottle carriers, as well as the ones that plug into the utility/lighter in the vehicle. If you don't have either of those, use the good old fashioned tin foil to wrap the bottle and put it in a towel or blanket.
Baby sunscreen and a hat.. a must. Have you thought about what to do for shade, or have that covered? I know Tahoe can be pretty sunny. Portable CD/Radio can be a life saver too, if you've got a fussy kiddo. It helps block other campers noise during daytime nap time (I don't have to worry about that one, I refuse to be quiet around Caitlin and at 9 days old, she's already sleeping through commotion.. we took her to a birthday party at Chucky Cheese and she didn't even bat an eyelash during her nap). LOL Now, I just hope she keeps it up!

We do have Aveeno baby sunblock but this kid will not wear a hat. Headbands she will wear all day long, she will even wear sunglasses usually, but not hats! Haven't thought too much about shade. The campsite is pretty shady as it is at Lake Tahoe which is very beautiful and forest-y. I will have to keep an eye on the sun/shade situation and make sure we don't burn her. Sophie is very dependent on her white noise machine for sleeping. I'm going to check if it can run on batteries. I don't remember if it does or not...... Thanks a lot!
