Which BD schedule is right?

Standard drugstore OPK (ovulation predictor kits) can tell you when you are ovulating, but oftentimes you don’t know exactly how much time you have.  You test ONCE a day and they are supposed to tell you whether you will ovulate within 48 hours - however, did you know that the prime time for a woman to conceive is during a period of 4-5 days and up to the day of ovulation?  Did you know that depending on when you take your standard OPK, you may have less than 48 hours?

OR

When your OPK turns positive, begin trying every night for three consecutive nights, skip the fourth night, and then once more. Then stop!

So if the top one is the correct one, then why would you even need to BD the 3rd or 5th night after getting a positive?????
I am really confused.  I have just heard from almost everyone to BD the night of the +OPK then for the next 2 nights, then to skip a night then one more night for insurance.  Can someone answer this?  TIA!!!!!

That's a lot of math!! THe advice that I received was every other day from around CD 10 until 1 day after your temp rises. Worked for us - got pregnant on the 4th cycle.

Best of luck!

Sperm can live up to 5 days...so every other day until you get your positive. This is when temping comes in handy because when you have your temp rise, you know you have ovulated...then you bd one more time for good measure as the egg can live about 24 hours. If you make a mountain out of a mole hill, then bd will get to be a burden. Have some fun around o time....then when you get the positive have a little more fun...and hope for the best! This time I conceived with bd 3,4,5 days prior to o. Good luck. Shari

Well they are both right, in one way or another  ; )
Like the pp said, sperm can live up to 5 days in the tubes, so you are potentially fertile 5 days before ovulation. But sperm need fertile cervical fluid to make it up to the tubes. Most women only experience 2-3 days of this fertile cervical fluid though. This is the fluid that looks like egg whites. So baby dancing on these days is key!
The OPKs can pick up the LH hormone surge which, depending on the woman, happens 12-48 hours before ovulation. So if  you are one of the women who ovulate 12hrs after the surge and wait 48hrs to baby dance you'll miss the egg. So I'd baby dance every other day leading up to the +OPK. Then bd every day for 3 days (48hrs it could take to O, then the egg can live up to 24hrs or if you ovulate more than one egg then they'll ovulate within 24hrs from each other.)
Though keep in mind a +OPK or LH surge doesn't guarantee ovulation. It could be your body is attempting to ovulate but does make it. If you want to confirm ovulation indeed did occur add temping to your TTC plan.
