I'm so sure these two topics have been asked a million times here, but I got no where when I entered it in search, so if anyone can point me to the answer...I'd appreciate it.

HAIR DYE
I've read so many things: you can dye after the first trimester, you should only stick with foil highlights, not at all? I have a 8 week stripe down my head right now

ACRYLIC NAILS
Ok every two weeks, ok after first trimester, not at all? I just love how my permanent french looks

Thanks in Advance

I don't know about nails but I've dyed my hair in all trimesters before.  1st and 3rd with Jordan and the second with Kaida.

I don't recall there being any stipulations but to make sure you are in a super ventilated area.

I was so paranoid that I didn't use anything at all. I am pretty sure that you can use hair dye and acrylic nail in your first trimester.

If you have the time looking in to buying a book called "What to Expect, when your Expecting." It really answers all of your questions.

Congrats and Good Luck!

I think it's really a personal decision.

The risk is actually minimal. It comes from slight absorption of the chemicals through your scalp and nail beds. Of course harsh chemicals are bad for you and since baby is smaller it's harder on them... but the risk is still minimal.

If you've never done it before, now is not the time to start since your body isn't used to it. It sounds like yours would be and you probably already have the minute chemicals floating around in there from past exposure. so... really it's a personal choice.

The nail salon thing is slightly worse since they tend to be not vented well and the fumes are so harsh, but again... personal choice.

I have known people who did both constantly and others who thought they were crazy.

Of course ask your DR but their opinon is really just that since there is no evidence of any actual links between hair dye and fake nails and birth defects or mc or anything.

Good luck deciding.

My Dr. gave me the ok on both, although I did'nt color my hair, I just wanted to know.

I got my acrylic nails done every two weeks this last pregnancy (I was in there a couple days before delivery, wanted to look nice hehe). He's a perfectly happy and healthy little boy. He even comes with me now every once and a while when I get them done (he's 9 months old now), I just make sure I go during kind of off times so the ventilation is good and not too many fumes from lots of customers. Maybe try that?

From what I have read, the *only* reason they sometimes say not to go in the 1st Trimester is because you could be nauseated due to the fumes from hair dye and the nails.  It's not that it will harm the baby, but just so you don't get embarrassed by throwing up at the salon.  If you think you can handle it, then your doctor will most likely not have a problem with it.
My friend is a cosmetologist and she said the "don't get your hair dyed during pregnancy" is an old thing from when they used to use much harsher chemicals in the old days.  Now it is much safer.  I'm sure with anything there is a slight risk.  Heck, there is a risk drinking tap water and breathing the smog-filled air, but we do it and we survive.

I did both with my kids and no problems.

I don't have my nails anymore, but will be getting my hair done as usual.
