Zofran

Howdy,

I have HG and was given Zofran (same thing in my last pregnancy) to ward off the nausea and constant vomiting. My dr prescribed 8 mg tablets 3 x's a day (if I don't keep down food off to the hosp I go tomorrow), only problem is that my insurance only will cover 24 tablets a month - until all the paperwork can be submitted and reviewed and a ruling concluded I'm treating these things like gold... so my question is... I seem to be nauseous again about 2 hours after I take one-- is anyone on Zofran? How often do you take them? How long do they work?

Thanks!

I have Zofran, Phenergan, and now i am on Protonix 2X daily. The Zofran does work well, but i noticed it only worked for about 3 hours with me and i was sick to my stomach again. I would take Sugar Free Orange Tums also. Phenergan is wonderful, but i was a walking zombie. The Protonix has been wonderful and i can actually eat.

Try spliting the pills in half and see what happens. (it's hard with the sublinguals but possible... use a sharp knife)

I can normally get longer use if I spread it out, but I am pretty constantly nauseous, but I don't vomit, so I consider that a win.

Phenergan and compozine knock me out, so i live on the zofran. They will only give me 12 pills at a time, and I am paying 15 each refill, so yeah, they are gold, but SO worth it. I misplaced my last 2 the other day and was in HG hell again for about 48 hours until I could get more from the pharmacy.

I'm wondering if tigan or compazine suppositories would work in the interum for you so you could use the zofran less.

PS....my girlfriend's insurance company didn't cover zofran at all...one tablet or 100 tablets...didn't matter...so she wanted to pay for one month out of pocket....well over $1000 for the month.  She unfortunately had to say thanks but no thanks for the zofran.

Good luck and feel better!
