Calling all mom survivors of babies with colic/reflux/puking/gas
Lactose-free formula and gripe water before every feed helped a bit. He didn't get "normal" until after six months when he started getting solids too.
The constant spitting up remained too.
I had heard the Dr.Brown bottles do help and feeding them in a more upright position (like lying his back against your stomach so that he faces out at the room while feeding) even at a few weeks old. This helped for my cousin.
Best of luck, I feel your pain!!!
Alison
P.S. Unrelated to the gas problems, I found reading funny mommy stuff helped me to stay saner. Like "Baby Blues" comic strips and stuff. I didn't laugh nearly enough in the first few months :)
Please do know im thinking of you sweets and it will get better!!!
BIG hugs!!!

You could also try Karo Syrup for the bowel/gassy issues. Arthur was switched to Nutramigin by me...I just did it. I put the Karo (1tsp) in the morning bottle and the evening bottle. He did become somewhat happier after he pooped.
I hope you find something that really works. Colic SUCKS and I WOULD NOT WISH IT ON anyone. Sometimes...they just outgrow it too!
I know how you feel about wishing the time away...it is a horrible feeling and just adds to the PPD.
Sorry!

Sorry of this is long but maybe something will help…Elijah had acid reflux (not colic) for the first six months. The main symptoms were profuse vomiting (not just spit up), crying (a pain cry), raspy sounding, coughing, and nursing but constantly popping off and shrieking then latching on again (apparently, he wanted to nurse because it soothed him and he was hungry but the milk brought up the acid which was painful). He was on Axid twice a day (our pediatrician prefers this over other meds because he said there’s no alcohol in it). We propped up his bassinet, crib, changing table, and anything else he could lie on (boards under the head end of the bassinet, pillow under his upper body when on the play mat or changing table). We especially had to keep him elevated for 30 minutes after each feeding. He nursed more frequently—every 1.5-2 hours and ate less (which is also a sign of acid reflux); luckily he was a fast nurser. When he was symptom-free for a while, we’d stop the Axid but his symptoms would start up within a day. Finally outgrew it when he was six months old (there is a light at the end of that tunnel!).
As far as gas, Elijah could clear a room and be heard in other counties. His belly was often hard as a rock and he was in pain. The lactation consultant and our pediatrician thought he might be lactose intolerant, so I eliminated dairy from my diet and that did the trick. I would try to add milk products back in (there’s an order to it) but he was unable to handle anything until he was seven months old or so.
When he did have a bottle, we used Dr. Brown. Mylecon sometimes worked to some degree for the gas. We also bought a Happi Tummi belly wrap, which smelled wonderful but didn’t seem to help (maybe because it’s for colic). Sawddling helped (he was a flailer and is till not a good sleeper) and so did sleeping upright on me during naps. We did a lot of leg pumping to work out the toots, too. Good Luck!
