Surrogate?
So......my friend Christie had her tubes tied after her last child was born almost 6 years ago. She has 3 kids total. She's been married twice. 2 kids with her 1st DH and 1 child with her 2nd DH. Well.....her 2nd DH wants more kids all of a sudden. He feels left out that he only has one child with her. They don't want to reverse her tubal. They said something about getting a gestational surrogate and doing AI or IVF to have one more biological child together. Can this even be done? I guess anything is possible!
I don't think they have even talked to her OB yet.
Edited: BTW.....the reason they wanted a surrogate is b/c Christie has horrbile pregnancies. Also she thinks her body couldn't handle one more pregnancy. That's why she got her tubes tied.

Surrogacy is a wonderful option! I myself am a gestational surrogate. These two little ones I'm carrying belong to some friends of mine. The intended mother can no longer carry a pregnancy as she had to have a hysterectomy when delivering her twins due to placenta acretta.
Your friends need to seriously research out all that both traditional surrogacy (where they use IUI and home inseminations to get the surrogate pregnant) and gestational surrogacy (where they use IVF techniques) entail. Depending on the state they live in, one option may be more advantageous than another, especially with traditional surrogacy because in some states it will require a step-parent adoption to get your friend's name on the birth certificate as the mother. Other states, like California, you can get what is called a pre-birth order that dictates who goes on the birth certificate so it doesn't matter if you used traditional or gestational surrogacy.
Surrogacy can be very expensive and is very time consuming - but on the flip side is so very, very rewarding! Just like with WLS, you need to do your research and find the best way for yourself. Good luck to your friends!

Ask me about pregnancy after the Duodenal Switch!
They're here! My surro-sons were born July 21, 2009. Welcome to the world, Benjamin and Daniel. We love you very much!
Wow, you had some great information. I know Christie and Chris haven't thought things out very far. I think she just feels bad that he wants one more and her tubes are tied. I hope they don't jump into something they can't handle. I know them well enough to know that they will for sure want to use her egg and his sperm to make sure it's their biological child. I'm guessing this all would be very, very expensive! WOW is all I can say!
Just trying to be a good supportive bestie!
