scared

I have been dealing with hip/right leg/back pain on and off for about 14 years. In the past a few adjustments at the chiropractor and I would be fine again. This year right after Valentines the pain started again however nothing the chiropractor did helped this time. To sum it all up I have had x-rays, MRI, and a few ER trips since then.I have been on strong pain meds for weeks now and have been miserable. TTC has been put on hold. I have a pinched nerve, arthritis in the spine, and degenerative bone disease in lumbar 1 to 4. Every movement is painful and sends pain running up and down my leg like a highway. My insurance company has been saying a nerve block shot is not medically necessary and has refused to pay for weeks. FINALLY they wised up. My nerve block injection is Thursday afternoon. I am scared. Scared that it will not help. Scared of laying flat on my stomach on an x-ray table while a needle is injected in my back in lumbar 5. I have been told the medication in the shot will not cause any issues with future TTC so that is good but it is going to be a long and worry some night with the what if's going through my head. I just know I can not keep living with pain and pills. I am still trying to over come obesity and infertility and I don't need prescription drug addiction added to that list too. Tami it breaks my heart that you are having so much pain. My husband has degenertive joint disease too, his doctor says he has the back of an 80 year old woman! His got really bad due to a cholesterol medication he was on. He is a nurse and he back was hurting really bad. With some research he discovered that back pain and explosive diarreah were side effects. I hope they can find out why yours is so bad. Paul has been great for a few years now. His back hurts for a few days but with rest and stretching it seems to go back in.

Good luck with the shot. Maybe this will be a turning point for you, no more pain and less meds.....followed by a baby!

Tami,

I hope you managed to get some sleep! I think your fears are valid and sharing them with your medical team may help all of you come up with a reasonable and attainable goal that meets your needs and gives you peace-of-mind. No personal experience here so I won't presume to know what you're going through. However, my MIL suffers from chronic pain and I've seen what it has done to her psyche. Unfortunately, she gave up on trying to find relief very early on and relies on my FIL's ability to "score" large quantities of narcotics through his VA Dr. It's scary and real so I am very proud of you for seeking alternative treatments.

Keep pursuing the life you deserve and *try* to adopt the mantra that in all things, the anticipation is almost always worse than the reality.

Thoughts, prayers and hugs,

Jo

Tami...due to the time difference, you're getting ready to head in for your shot in a few hours....I'll pray that it's a success for you and that you will be living a virtually pain free life as of tonight, your time....and that by being pain free...it enables you to continue to pursue your goal of TTC.

I am so sorry you are going thru this.  I completely understand your worries about it not working and being addicted to pain pills.  My husband has MS and has the same exact fears you have.  And being that he's a recovering alcoholic, he knew the addiction factor could be very real.
He's been on morphine, oxycontin, you name it.  He begged his doctors to find something less addictive but that worked as well.  He also wanted to be coherent for our kids' sake.
It took him a long time to find a pain management specialist that would see him. Every clinic saw him as a drug seeker when he truly isn't. He wanted OFF the drugs!   He finally found one that listened and they tried many differen things and found that siboxone (something like that) has helped the most.  It's not made him groggy, his pain is much less, and he doesn't feel like he's addicted to anything.  It's really improved his quality of life!!

Good luck to you.  I hope you are able to find some relief soon.
