Thinking about getting pregnant....

Hmmm... once I get my iron levels under control... my boyfriend and I want to try to have a baby.

I am super nervous! I never thought I would want another child... throw in WLS and being 35 now... what am I thinking? My kids are 14 and 9... entering high school and 4th grade. This is pretty much a new family.

I have had a little weight gain the last year... due to not having the energy to do ANYTHING with my low iron. I sleep all the time. Alas, getting that taken care of as we speek. Infusions weekly. Made an appointment with my OB to get things checked out and possibly remove the IUD.

So I have some questions...

How have you done with weight gain during pregnancy?
If you had children prior to WLS, was it much different?
What do I need to make sure of before entering this venture?
Am I a nut?

Ok so that last question is entirely subjective.

Thanks in advance. I will be back but not sure if I will have access to the internet for the next week. Can't wait to read your answers.

Howdy neighbor.  I'm right down the road from you.
How have you done with weight gain during pregnancy?  Not well.  Gained 70 lbs.  40 of that was gone within a month of childbirth....30 remains and I don't like it!
If you had children prior to WLS, was it much different?  Didn't have children prior to WLS, but most people say it is much easier/better/healthier after WLS than before if they were obese before.
What do I need to make sure of before entering this venture?  That you can maintain your iron levels, that your other levels are good, start taking folic acid before trying to conceive (Start taking now)
Am I a nut?  If you are, we all are.  :)
Welcome to this forum if this was your first visit.  Please do come back!

HI Tonya!  Welcome to the board.   I think you got some great answers from Jen about everything.   Make sure not only your iron but your other vitamin levels are good.   I gained 45 lbs when I was pregnant post RNY.   I was back into my jeans 3 wks later at her baby shower.   I have stayed exactly where I was before I got pregnant now and she's 2 1/2.   Yes, I'd like to lose more but I'm happy.  I did have 2 children prior to WLs....ok so there was a 14 yr break between children....sooo I figured age would make it harder...i also was 35 when I got pregnant with Sadie.   I had a much much much easier smoother pregnancy after RNY than I did before.

Are you a nut??   Well not so sure on that one.   If starting over with a brand new baby classifies you as a nut well then so am I.   Like I said my older kids are much much older than my baby girl.   My daughter is 19, my son is almost 17, and our little Sadie is 2 1/2.   I wouldn't change it for the world....we all adore her so much and it's been the greatest joy we've ever known.   So glad we decided to have her.

Hope this helped!

Sorry to hijack...

I'm in a similar situation. I've got kids ages 17,15, & 13. I'm getting remarried this summer and we're already preparing to try to have a child. My fiancee has never been married, no children. I'm 37. As you can see from my other children's ages, I was super fertile once upon a time. Now I'm not so sure. Did you have any problems getting pregnant after waiting so long?

I had no problems at all getting pregnant that last time.   We stopped my birth control and I had 1 period then the Dr changed one of my meds around so we decided we should probably wait a bit till that was all straightened out first.   Well, God had other plans.   I had just started working a 2nd job so we were barely seeing each other let alone having sex.   I seriously think we had sex maybe twice that month and well little Sadie is here to tell the rest of that story.   So nope no problems at all!   Hopefully you will have as good of luck as I did.    My husband had never been married and never had any kids either.

Welcome to the board. I am still new in my pregnancy but have lost 15 pounds since I found out and my nutritionist has me eating about every 2 hours. YUCK!! I feel like all I do is eat and drink and pee. HEEHEE!!! My kids right now ar 15 and 10 and will be 16 and 11 when this one is due. So I know how you feel on that. I am 34 right now but when baby is due I will be 35 also. It is starting all over for sure but I have a doctor who wants to remove my uterus so this is like my last chance. I took it!!! This pregnancy so far is different than my 2 before surgery. Making sure to eat the right things is hard when you have off the wall cravings. Thats about it. I have not had much trouble with labs so far. I think once my iron was a little low and so was my protein but at that time I had an infection so we got that all under control. I still feel very tired all the time and not much I can do. I have insomnia though so no pills for me and its telling on me for sure!!
Not nuts cause if you are then I am!!!!

I don't think you're a nut!  :)  I know with me, I couldn't hardly get pregnant before RNY and surely couldn't keep one healthy.  In 8 years I got pregnant 2x and lost both.  After RNY, I got pregnant instantly and am now pregnant again with my youngest being 1.5.

I gained 12 lbs the first 30 weeks of my last pregnancy, then I went on to gain 38 more lbs in the last 10 weeks!  So I gained a total of 50 lbs - and I was just 4.5 months post-op.

HOWEVER, I lost 42 of those lbs within 2 weeks of having my little moose.  I think my body shifted a bit and I couldn't fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes like I wanted, but I would rather have those 8 extra lbs than not have my little man.  It's my own fault that I haven't lost any more.  I got waaaay too used to snacking.  BAD!

I'm hoping to make better decisions this time around but I'm ravenous with hunger with these twins!  I want to eat all day.  It's starting to show in my face.  Ugh!

Good luck!  I never had any issues regarding WLS with my last pregnancy and so far, this one is going even better...just tired because of it being two.  Oh, and the stretching pains!  I'm getting huge quick.
