I know I complain alot but I gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks. I am up to 42 pounds gained now and will only be 30 weeks on Sunday. Can anyone give me ideas on what to eat B/L/D if I eat a little I feel like I'm starving the lil one...even though I know in my head its my excuse to pig out. I don't want to hit 250 again and by golly I only have 15 pounds left and 10 weeks to go at this rate I'm going to be morbid again....encouragement please.........

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? I gained 30 at 30 weeks and another 40 before delivery, but I had gd. This time around I am following the pregnancy diabetic diet and baby is getting enough and I am eating the right foods for both gb and pregnancy. I don't want to gain 70 pounds again. So far 15 weeks and 2.5 pounds. Also I am walking 4-5 days a week...very important, something I didn't do with my last pregnancy. It really helps to keep your insulin working properly naturally. I know it is hard to curb the cravings. I think I did that with #1 too. I felt like I could eat whatever I wanted because my pouch was so small, what harm could I do. But, snacking all day can add up to alot of calories, especially if making the wrong choices. Anyway, I know it it tough...but after having a 9.6 pound baby the first time, it is enough to scare the crappy eating right out of me this time. Think of the babe as what you eat they eat...that might help you stay on track. Good luck. Shari

Thank you Shari. Doctor says I do not have gestational diabetes, I personally just think I'm a pig. I binge eat, starve, binge, starve when I'm not pregnant so since I can't starve than I just keep gaining rapidly. I am going to check out the GD diet anyways maybe I can at least stay this weight until delivery.

What sort of food are you craving and eating? I am not pregnant but I am nursing so I have that same feeling of urgent hunger.

When I am craving chocolate or sweet type foods, I will eat a high fiber pop tart or Fiber One pastry. 190 calories and 6 grams of fiber. Fiber makes us feel full longer and aids in digestion. I might also choose a Fiber One bar, 9 grams of fiber, 150 calories.

If I am craving real food I eat a sandwich, turkey or ham on 35 calorie bread with dijon mustard, tomato, and lettuce. 195 calories.

I just got done eating turkey chili, 180 calories a cup.

Try to eat more often but less then 200 or 250 calories at a time. I was a big time binger and I have learned that if I limit myself to these calories even if I still want to eat, in 10 minutes or so the hunger is gone and an hour or so later if I want a snack I have one.

Being pregnant you need 1800 - 2000 calories a day. You can eat 200 calories an hour for 10 hours!!! Don't fill up on empty calories. Take a food you like and figure out a better, less caloric alternative.

If you want to list some foods here maybe I can help you.

Yes a list would be great. I appreciate your responding, as when I post I usually dont get to much feedback or support. But thats just a negative feeling I have about myself that no one likes me so again I thank you.

I feel like I often don't get feedback or responses too.  You're not alone in that.  Hang in there.  People just don't know what to say sometimes, it is not that they don't care.  Hugs

Thank you! And I must say little Sophie is just the cutest thing! I am having another girl, my first is almost 14 months so teenage years should be fun! Thanks for posting.

Vanessa,

I know exactly how you feel, as I gained 75 pounds during my pregnancy.  A lot more of it was water than I suspected, though - truly.  I knew I was carrying around a lot of fluid the last 1-2 weeks, and I thought the rest up to that point was just fat, but I was surprised.  By my 6 week check-up, I had lost 40 of those 75 pounds by doing virtually nothing.

I told myself I would never go over 200 again, and I reached 230!  In the last 5-8 weeks of pregnancy, it seemed like no matter what I did or how well I thought I ate, I just kept gaining and gaining, so I guess I just kind of tried to accept it and resolved to take care of it after.

I've had to work at the last 35 pounds; I still don't have it all off, but it can be done.  I have about 8 pounds to go.  Had I tried harder, I know it could be gone by now, but....  Don't feel so badly about yourself, and I know it's easy to say.  It also seemed like no one could understand what I was going through because people seemed to be gaining so little compared to me, but I guess everyone is different.

You'll be okay!

Tanja

Thanks Tanja. I did gain 70 lbs with my first last year and lost it all in 6 months but I just remember how hard it trully was and I starved alot to get it off. I just wanted to gain less so I didnt have to go through that this time, I was so miserable last time. This time I want to enjoy my baby and not be too fat.
