Had my OB intake appointment today.....

Walked out with my bag o crap (or samples, you decide LOL).  I did accomplish the one things I wanted - which was to get an appointment with the high risk practice sooner than later.    Initially I was told I wouldn't see them until 16-18 weeks - but here's my concern.

There is a good chance that I can't have amnio - because of the abdominal mesh from my hernia repair, but I haven't been told absolutely not.

I don't want to go and schedule the  CVS testing until I know for sure the Amnio is out.  And it's going to the be the high risk docs I want to hear from.    I did see their doctor over a year ago when we were just talking about the potential of getting pregnant, but now that it's here, I want to see them again.  I don't see the reg OB until June 18th - so it doesn't leave me much time to (a) schedule the CVS if that's the route I have to take or (2) NOT schedule it and get the amnio.

Am I making any sense? LOL.  Anyway, the nurse totally understood my concerns and will get me set up.  Only drawback, the HR doc I saw last year retired - so it will be a new one.

If you add in my age, and my WLS, I think I have good reason to see the fully loaded docs.

So that's it for now.  Confirmed the January 10th due date.  Yikes.

Good news on the appt! I see the HR Dr on the 18th - here's to hoping that's a good day for both of us! I get my first US that day - hope you do too and all is well!!

Liz

PS - they have my date as Jan 8th right now...

I am glad they are going to be able to get you in quicker to see the HR doctor. Maybe they will be able to give you the answers you are searching for and make you feel a little more at ease.

Look forward to updates!

My OB said any WLS was reason enough for him to call in the "fully loaded" docs.... but more so since he had never heard of the DS.

Even my Surgeon said I should be going to a high-risk OB.  Glad they are taking you seriously!

Is there a reason besides age you are thinking of getting an amnio ?   I was undecided on it and the high-risk OB talked me out of it....

Take Care!

You know Cindy, I would think that the WLS, especially something as super malaborbing as the DS, would be enough as well to raise concern, but so far I'm not feeling it.  I had to get Dr. P to run my first set of labs.  Aargh.  We'll see how it goes as we move along.

The amnio is totally an age thing.  At 40, my risks of something going wrong are pretty high.  I am a serious planner.  If there is a problem, I need to know so I can prepare, emotionally as well as all the other things that come along with a special needs child.

I don't know what will happen but I'm praying for all the right stuff :)

Hey Sharon, that all sounds good and I am glad you are getting what you want!!!  You know us DSers can be pushy enough!  LOL.

I am thinking I should be a "high risk" too b/c of the DS.  I have my first appt on Monday, had the blood test today....but it is just with the nurse to do paperwork, etc....so I will def bring it up and too my Mom had a incompetent cervix....so I want all the care and attention I can get, LOL.

Good luck!!!  And keep me posted!!

P.S.  I have yet to tell Doc....I am waiting until after the blood test confirmation, etc.
