Losing Weight While Pregnant

Hi All,

New to the board and wanted to ask a question to see if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

I had gastric bypass in Dec. 07, about 17 months ago and lost 143 pounds before I got pregnant with my first baby. My concern is that in the past 2 weeks I had a bad case of the stomach flu and morning sickness, making it tough to even consider eating. I've lost 11 pounds in 14 days and I'm concerned for the health of the baby. I still have *plenty* of extra weight on me, so I figure that baby is able to get "food" that way. I still am waiting to have my first prenatal appointment, which won't happen until next Monday, so I can't consult with the pro yet.

Anyone else here experienced the same sort of thing? Any advise/info would be much appreciated!

~Katherine

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you don't deserve my best.

you'll be fine.  :)

I've lost 9 lbs so far.  a gal I know was 2.5 months out of surgery and lost over 50 lbs for the beginning of her pregnancy.  so far she and baby are fine.

I lost 56 lbs over the first 7 months of my pregnancy. You'll both be okay...as long as you get back on track after the m/s and the flu..

I wanted to add that I also lost 35 lbs with DS # 1.  That was 14 years before I had RNY and I only weighed 135 lbs when I got pregnant. Alex weighed 10 lb 8 oz and is now a very healthy almost 15 year old.

Hi! I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to say congrats on your pregnancy! And I see you had your surgery at Methodist/ PNC, did you live in MN before, or? My surgeon was Dr Wetherille  in June 06.

it is completely normal for anyone to lose weight the first trimister... even if you didn't have WLS... I had one friend lose 20 pounds... and she gained that plus another 15 total...

I didn't lose any weight... but I have only gained 5ish pounds (It can be up to 10 pounds if I haven't pooped in a few days lol)...

The baby will get what it needs from you... which is why some mommies to be start to have other issues (bone loss, teeth issues, hair/skin issues) because of that...

With my first pregnancy I lost like 15 lbs and then never gained ANY weight, and my babies where all huge LOL This baby is measuring big and I lost four lbs in the last few weeks, and have barely gained any weight at all! Just make sure that you are taking your vitamins and keeping very hydrated, and when you can get back on track with food that you eat balanced meal and you should be fine!

I have lost a lot of weight with this pregnancy... mainly because I was 7 months out when it started. They will tell you to eat more and more frequently and to basically eat anything that stays down. Do your best to hold down the vitamins and enough fluid, other wise you will join the oh so happy hospital hydration club!

They don't like you to loose weight, but as long as baby continues to grow on track, they don't sweat it too much. Everytime I go in to the Dr... I'm down more and get told to eat more.... blah blah blah. But baby is healthy and on track so they can bite my puking butt.
