I have always wanted Mom there when I was under stress or when I was fearful...but not this time.  I knew my mom's excitement would preclude her ability to be there for me in the way that I needed.  So we didn't even allow her to drive to the hospital until the doctor said it was time to do a c-section.  If I hadn't had c-section, I would have not had hubby call her until I was dilated to at least an 8 if even then.  Everybody's different.  I just got a sense as pregnancy went on that I wanted only hubby and me.  Some people love to have their mother or sister or friend there all through the labor.  I think it would have stressed me out more because the more people, the more things to worry about.  When I had my RNY both my mom and hubby stayed in my hospital room with me for two days.  So I am close with my mom.  But having a baby is a whole different matter.  You'll figure out what's right for you the closer you get to your big day.

I think it depends on what you are comfortable with.  I had a party going on in my room :-)  We had my DH, Mom, Dad, 2 of my 3 brothers, their spouses, my in-laws, my SIL and BIL and a friend of mine.  Too bad I ended up with a c-section many hours later.
