WARNING Medical Information Labor and Delivery is not “pretty"

On Saturday 5/16 I woke up not feeling great but we had decided to hit some garage sales, so off we went well my back was really hurting and I was having some leaking down south it was clear so I thought maybe it was just pregnancy discharge so I kept about my day I picked up my sisters from a friends house because they were really missing their family my parents/grandparents were in California scheduled to come back on Sunday.

So at like 2pm I was still leaking and it was increasing and was watery so I though mmm maybe I am leaking amniotic fluid so I thought I would got to labor and delivery to get checked but I had two very hungry children so we went to chili’s to eat and kinda hurried then went to L &D. So they did a paper test and a swab the paper turns blue and the swab brown if you are leaking well they changed but the nurse didn’t “see" fluid leaking so they paged Dr. Wirsing he said call me back and tell me yes or no so I walked and coughed and they tested my underwear and they still were not 100% so he said fine I will be in and do a check with a speculum. I was 2cm 50% effaced. So he was on his way and pop…gush….gush…gush!!! It was for sure broke so I called the nurse and they were said oh yeah its broke! So Dr. walked in and he was kinda ****ed but oh well he makes the bucks!

So I was only having a few mild contractions so Pitocin was started (makes contractions harder and more frequent) So they upped the pit every hour until right before delivery. This was started at 7pm meanwhile someone came to get my sisters. About 9pm they started and they were very painful. I signed papers for an Epidural because I knew this was going to be a long hard delivery being she was still high and I was only 2cm. They also put in an internal monitor to monitor her heartbeat because it is more accurate so that was good because the external  if she moved an inch it would lose it and it was a pain!  At 12midnight I was having a lot of pain so she gave me numorphine. At 1:30 I was screaming and she called for the epidural I was 3cm so then I rested until about 4am then the contractions really started getting bad again and her heartbeat was dipping with contractions so they kept having me flip and put me on 10L of Oxygen. I had an allergic reaction to the epidural itching like crazy so they gave me Benadryl to help with that.

Then at about 6am she checked me and I was 5.5cm now because I was positive for group b strep I had 24hrs to delivery from the time my water broke which they went by 9am on Sat so we were approaching 9am on Sunday and I was worried I was going to have a C-Section with her dipping and me not dilating.

So 7am is shift change at 7:15 the new nurse came in and everyone was very relaxed cause I was only 5.5cm I started having uncontrollable shaking and my right leg was having horrid pain they said oh she is probably on a nerve well at 7:30 I said I am having rectal pressure not bad but I can feel it so The nurse was like I will check you so she gets her glove on and pulls the sheet her eyes got big and another nurse was in there she said theres the head page the dr. stat! So they all start running around I had 4 nurses and an ob tech everyone was like don’t push don’t push…easy for you to say! So the Dr. came in at like 7:50 while we were waiting everything was prepped and they had me do a practice push I did 2 half assed pushes and they told me to stop so at 7:55 the doc was gowned etc he still came straight from his car I gave 2 good pushes and she was out, the cord was wrapped around her neck twice. Because she came so fast I tore and had to get stitches.

At 8:03 Molly Babette was born she was 6lbs 11oz and 18.5 inches. At about 8:45 the nurse had her cleaned and gave to me she ate her first meal like a champ! After she was done eating they took her to the nursery and my legs were still pretty numb so then I had to go the bathroom but was  not allowed up they nurses told me everything would have come out with the baby they went back and forth for like 10min I was like either get a bedpan or you will be changing my bed. After that they said well I guess you proved us wrong! So then I went to postpartum and I didn’t get feeling back in my left leg until about 3pm or so.

She cluster feeds she eats for 20min on each side rests 30min repeat x1 or 2 then sleeps for 4 hours. Her bilirubin is high so they are having me come in each day for 3days for blood tests we go to the Ped on Thursday for her first visit. She passed her hearing test and is doing fantastic. I am having a lot of pain but that’s to be expected. We had to stay at least 48hrs due to me being group b positive so we came home on Tuesday at about 1 pm. She likes being home and so do we!

I am so in love!!! :)

Congratulations! Welcome Molly. You certainly went through an ordeal! I am soo happy for you.

On another note: Do you know why you reacted to the epidural? (this is something I am particularly worried about as I am allergic to eggs and most injections are egg based. I reacted to something at my rny and I was going insane itching, even on max dose benedryl)

Just wondering. Congrats again!

No I had insane itching and they gave me iv benedryl and after like 20min it stopped thank god or I would have lost most my skin! I do not have food allergies so I am not sure what caused it when you go into labor talk to the doctor, she was very helpful with all my questions.

I don't know how to upload pics but I will have my hubby do it later!
