stupid question
When I had a cold (and ear infection) my OB wouldn't prescribe anything....sent me to my PCP. Same with the dog bite. The OB said the PCP would be better equipped to deal with it....
Of course my PCP called and told my OB what he was prescribing, etc (and I looked up any and all drugs prescribed on safefetus.com).
Call your OB and ask.... I guess they all must operate differently.

My OB always makes me call my PCP. Call now - I was so sick a few weeks ago - razor sore throat turned into a horrible gunky cough and I am pretty sure that I was coughing SO HARD and SO MUCH that it is what put me into preterm labor. :(

Hi Beth,
Try Motherisk on the web. Don't know the site address off the top of my head. They are Canadian but I often see them listed as a resource at the back of American pregnancy books. You can call their hotline and they give super advice on what to take and what is safe. They are a research centre for our biggest Sick Kids hospital in Toronto and are partnered with the March of Dimes initiative to prevent birth defects.
My PCP will not ever prescribe anything until I ask them first.
Hope you feel better soon!
Alison

Depends on the OB office.. but also your insurance, if the OB is honest. Mine refers to the PCP, because a lot of insurances won't cover "sick" from the OB's billing.
As for sore throat, my OB and PCP, will let us use Chloroseptic lozenges (whole mouth goes dead, but feels sooo much better), and they now have the directable spray in a Berry taste. I wound up with two sinus infections this pregnancy (one just 2 weeks ago) and they contributed seriously to a sore throat that felt like it was sandpaper on fire.
Hope you feel better soon. I hate nothing worse than a sore throat, or not being able to breathe through my mouth when I try to sleep.
*hugs*
