lifting heavy stuff
I know this is a question I should ask my doc, and I will at my next appointment, but I'm sure some of you know as well!
Every time I do something that involves lifting lately, random people freak out and tell me I shouldn't be lifting things! I sold some small bookcases to a lady and I offered to help her get them in her truck, and she was all worried about me helping her in my "condition" but if she had tried to do it alone she probably would have really hurt her back!
Is there a cutoff time where I'm supposed to start being careful about the weight of the stuff I'm lifting or moving? I don't do anything like that if I don't feel up to it, but I'm one of those self-sufficient sorts that kind of chafes at being told I can't do something! is it OK for me to just pay attention and let my body tell me if I shouldn't be doing something?

Here at our home , we own a ranch and my husband is out of town 3-4 days a week. I lift several 40-50 pound bags of feed daily, feed cows, horses, etc.....All on my own. Now, if i go to the feed store, grocery store, etc... I always ask for help getting things.

I was told not to lift anyting over 10 pounds. They believe that my lifting heavy objects at my old job had somthing to do with my last miscarriage.
Lifting is dangerous, but it can be done properly. Try lifting with your arms and legs rather than your back and stomach muscles.
I too am an independant woman, just talk to your doctor and be careful.

I was wondering the same thing...WHY are we not supposed to lift anything? My youngest is 25 lbs and I have to carry him all the time. Especially when both kids fall asleep in the car and I have to haul them BOTH upstairs to their rooms one at a time. I mean, I get winded much faster but people are constantly freaking out over me lifting my 1 year old.
