Constipated - please help me.
Okay......you're going to think I'm nutts....but here goes.....
I'm always having poop issues since my RNY. So, I have a few things I can't eat without almost ****ting myself with in 10 min. of eating it. Example: icecream, milk, pecan pie, fudge bars, etc. ( I dump on certian foods now post-op)
So when I'm all plugged up.....I drink me a big ole' glass of cold milk (so yummy, and I miss it) and BAMB! I'm crappin' in no time flat.....
I do add Benefiber to my bottles of water.....really it doesn't seem to help me like the "dumping" trick does.
Constipation goes with pregnancy and I think it's worse when you're preggers and post-op!

Well, you first have to deal with the immediate issue of being impacted - you may need to go the enema route. Suppositories can help too but you might be too far gone for that.
I am not having problems with this preg (DSers are generally not on the constipated side LOL) but I did take stool sofeteners daily as a pregnant pre op. It made a world of difference.
good luck and sorry you are having all this trouble.

Thats so funny. I just figured out since surgery I have been lactose intolerant and when I have eaten a few bites of ice cream it works quite well. A nice taste and I dont get clogged up. Bout 5 bites a day or every other day does the trick now. Funny the things we try to help this out. I have used suppositories and I have used enemas. Whatever works is always the best feeling.

When I had that problem I used magnesium citrate and it worked within 1/2 hour. It tastes terrible to say the least but it worked like a charm. I don't know about using it during pregnancy though, I would say ask your doctor or pharmacist first.
On bit of caution though - do not push, push, push while using the bathroom or you will end up with rectocele like I did and that is not fun either! http://www.med.nyu.edu/crs/info/anorectal13.html
When I got pregnant I talked to my OB about my problem getting worse and she prescribed me prenatal vitamins with a stool softner in them and that has helped a lot. On a rare occasion, 1 time a month or something now, I might have to take a dulcolax to help me out but the vitamins have been great with keeping the problem at bay.

I'm not preggers so I can't help too much. I can tell you what works on me. I eat 2 activia a day and that usually helps me. I have only been constipated once since August of last year since I started eating it. I hadn't gone for about a week and took Milk of Magnesia. Didn't work. I had gall bladder surgery then, still with not going. There was no way I was gonna push, I drank some Mag Citrate. I drank half a bottle a night then the rest the next morning. I went a little before I drank the second half. Let me tell you, I lost count how many times I went in 24 hours. That stuff will clean you out. I had Walgreen's brand and it was cherry flavor. I actually liked it. It was a sour cherry and I always liked tart things pre-op, now I LOVE them. Onw word of warning about it is that it is lightly carbonated.
I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
