I would say that they are doing super fine!  And as long as they are on their own curve, there is nothing wrong.  They beat Gabi in weight gain.  She was born at 7 lbs 5 ounces and at 4 months weighed 11 lbs 2 ounces.  She has less weight gain and their was no suggestion of adding anything to her formula.  She was hald breastfed and half formula...but not together.

I hope that helps.  Find a new pedi, one who is up on modern times.  Seriously.

Thank you.  I agree, Husband and I talked and we both agree this sounds just as stupid now as it did this morning.

Wow! Never heard that.

Your doctor knows there are specialized formula out there like neosure http://similac.com/baby-formula/similac-neosure specifically designed to give the extra calories needed for underweight or preemie babies, right? I'd go that route before giving my baby cooking oil... That's got to be all sorts of wrong.

My grandson was 3 weeks early and on the small side.  He even lost a whole pound before he started gaining.  My dil supplemented with Neosure after bfing then only on Neosure until his weight gain was sufficient.  Now he is fine.  I would go with that as a supplement way before veggie oil.  GAG!

Thanks for your comment.  We did supplement with the extra fortified premee formula when he was younger.  I also noticed we have a few things in common.  I was pregnant at the same time as my daughter and dil.  I have two grandchildren.  One is 2 months older then my twins, and the other is only 12 days older.  I hope you are having as much fun as we are.  Suzy

I would think that the oil would cause the baby to poop more, and therefore absorb less.  Sounds like a nut job!

Yes mine out 20 year old daughter was premature and the doctors had me add vegetable oil to her bottles for extra calories she is now a pretty healthy twenty-year-old definitely not overweight I am a little concerned about what her arteries may look like though on

I just had to tell you guys, you are all so funny!!  I agree with all of you completely as I posted ealier and I came back on here today to check out what everybody else had to say and I laughed and laughed!  You have great senses of humor!

Also, I read your babies' birth weight and weight gain and that doctor is NUTS NUTS NUTS!!!  They are just fine!  My daughter started out at 4 lbs and 13 ozs. and had similar weight gain and her ped has always said she is fine.  I don't remember who it was but somebody said you have to allow for a little bit smaller baby when you breast feed and that is so true.  Its just the perfect mixture for them therefore its not overloaded with fat.  It won't be long and their smallness will be only a memory.
