Are you sure the ped didn't say to put them on a formula CONTAINING added vegetable oil? That does exist. It hikes up the calories.
I gotta tell ya, the though of dumping a spoon full of wesson in the bottle freaks me out. It sounds SO dangerous.

Yes I am sure, he gave me a receipt for mixing and everything.  I don't think I am going to do it.... I think he is doing fine, and besides what do we learn hear on this board....... ADDED FATS ARE NOT A GOOD THING  Right?????  Thanks for your input - Suzy

I'm weird, I know...LOL but I HAVE heard of it. From my MIL. About what the ped told her to do TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO for my BIL to gain weight. But nowadays? Um, no. Honestly? I'd give WHOLE MILK before adding oil to my baby's formula (if he wasn't breastfed). Look for the high calorie formulas. They do exist.

At least someone has heard of it before.  I have him on high calorie formula added into my breastmilk.  It just seems to be that if every baby was huge the growth chart wouldn't be a chart.  Right???  Someone has to be the beginning and someone has to be at the top.......  He has gained 7 lbs in the last 4 months, and I think that is good......

Umm.. why not get some of the higher calorie formulas?  They have to be ordered, but it, well, makes sense.

Or add cereal to the milk in small doses to add in calories.  Guarantee that will chunk up a non-puking kiddo.

Just the thought of that is making my stomach heave. My son was always tiny - not preemie tiny, but little (with a GIANT HEAD) The ped said to supplement w/ formula (boob milk) and add cereal at 6 mos - from a bowl w/ a spoon, not IN the bottle.

He's still little, so I guess he's just a little dude, but he eats like a horse.

We used Duocal which is a fat and carb blend powder you add to their milk/foods.

I'm shocked at your ped. You have a breastfed child, he is not going to be on the same chart. Breastfed children can be smaller and unless there is a huge drop in weight or failure to thrive I wouldn't change a thing.

Here is a resource that can help you. I would not take this doctor's advice at all. Is he old?

Your post made me laugh, because yes he is old...I am just shocked at the suggestion of oil being added into their milk.  I am not against disobeying.  and I ussally do.  I am going to go onto your link now.  Thanks  - What a great link I have never seen it.  If the average weight gain for babies is 5 to 7 ozs a week, then my twins are right perfect.  They were born at 4lbs and 8 ozs and 4lbs and 6 oz 17 weeks ago.  and now weight 11lb and 12 ozs. and 10 lbs and 15.5 ozs.  So to the heck with him.... They are perfect.....
