Have any of you ever heard of adding Vegetable oil to formula for extra calories?  My Ped wants me to start adding oil to the babies milk for extra fat.  I have never heard of this before.

Wow. That sounds scarey.

I've never heard of it.  My daughter has always been on the small side (not even on the growth charts) because she was early and her pediatrician whom I have much respect for never suggested anything like that.  I don't know if it makes any difference or not about this particular issue but she was breastfed.

I'm sorry I'm new here so I don't know your situation.  I assume your little one is also on the small side?  Was he/she early? How old is the baby?

Welcome to the board.  I have twins they were 5 weeks premee, and are now 4 months old.  My son Nicolas was born with a cleft lip, so I have breastfeed him through a bottle.  I have been adding formula to his breastmilk to increase the calories.  Now they want me to try this.  I agree with all of you.  This sounds crazy and scary....  Thanks for your input. - suzy

I was looking on diapers.com a few days ago, and they have packets of human milk fortifier...the one I saw was more for like newborns, but maybe they have something like that for an older baby.  Might be worth looking into.

That sounds icky. I wouldn't give my baby oil, but that's me.
