Topic: RE: hey, lap band with severe pcos, anybody have lap band??
Hi, I'm new here. Just signed up today.

I have had pcos since I was 15. They diagnosed me because of irregular periods. I was on Yasmin for 5 years prior to becoming pregnant with my first. I got pregnant 3 months after stopping.

I went back on Yasmin for 6 months after my son was born, and stopped due to increasing migraines. Since 6 months pp (Jan of '10) I've had migraines, a chronic skin condition as well as infertility.

I'm on metformin 500mg 2x's a day, and it's doing NOTHING.

I've only been able to lose about 10 pounds when activley dieting/exercising.

Do you ladies think that having PCOS is related to not being able to lose very much weight? Also, do you think that Lap Band is a good choice because of it?

I've googled a lot, but I like to hear first hand and personal people's experiences.

Topic: RE: BANDED IN 2005 RECENTLY DIAG W PCOS
I had RNY in 2008 and have gained about 60lbs back of the 140 I lost. Honestly I feel that the large weight gain that so quickly happened after I got to my lowest weight, that PCOS plays a large part in it. But I also was being irresponsible and not completely eating the way I should have been. I'm not sure if insurance will give you a revision because of the PCOS. Maybe someone else can answer this, but just so you know, it may take a long time. Seems like no one really comes to the PCOS boards.

I started sesonique 6 weeks ago and I have been bleeding for 3 weeks.  I had not had a period for over two years so I am really hoping it is just clearing everything out and it will stop soon if not I am gonna stop taken the pills and find a diffrent type of birth control. I am beyond sick of this period.

Had bypass surgery and lost 65 pounds in 4 months (January 2011) . I have been treated with PCOS since 1999.  I seem to go in cycles. I stall and then lose more weight..  Exercise really helps. When I'm not losing weight, I tell myself the PCOS is fighting to hang on....

Glucophage, a common diabetic drug stopped my daughters  bleeding....it levels out blood sugars.
It might be worth a trial.
She took 500mg  twice a day initally. ...and it jump started her weight loss.

Topic: RE: Which Surgery will help PCOS more?
I haven't posted in a while.  But I have a date!!! I decided to go with the RNY and I'm having it done July 12th!!  I wish I could go with the VSG but I'm afraid that with my insulin resistance I'll have a problem gaining the weight back and that insurance won't pay for a revision to the RNY if it's needed.  So here we go!!  Talked to my best friend today out in Philly, she had the RNY done on December 23rd and is down 90 lbs!!  That's fast.  I'm hoping for that much in a year.  It gives me hope.  If she can do that well, I'll be happy to do half that good.  So excited AND nervous!!

 Are you losing any inches?
What is the amount of protien that you are gettign in daily?
How much exercise are you getting daily?
Are you drinking enough water each day?

I have no had surgery yet still going through the process I do know that there are normal stalls when the scales don't move much if at all but you are still losing inches.

I have heard that post op birth control pills are not absorbed the same way and that a non oral option should be used such as the patch depo the ring or an iud
