Topic: RE: PCOS and WLS
Hello!
I have had pcos since I was around 16 my weight didn't really become an issue till I was around 23. On may 16th I had the sleeve and I honestly (as of now) do not have a single regret. I was right around 310 lbs pre op and had cramping excess hair growth and irregular periods.

Post op I am getting my period without med, the excess hair is still there but it's thinning up and I couldn't be happier!

I picked the sleeve because I wanted a faster weight loss then I would have gotten with the band and I didnt want to change around the plumbing that is required with ds or bypass.

I would say to find a local surgeon and go to a seminar they are free and VERY informative. It's a great place to start.

Topic: PCOS and WLS
 hello!
I'm currently looking into my options for WLS and have been diagnosed with
PCOS around a year ago. I was curious if any of you ladies that have PCOS have had the WLS and had good/bad results afterwards...and which WLS--?

I know that PCOS has made loosing weight a pain, and even after struggling to diet/exercise and loosing a few pounds--it's always made me gain it back, and multiply it....

Topic: RE: New and Have a question
I haven't had a WLS done (yet anyways)...and i actually was diagnosed with PCOS AFTER i had my daughter--just about a year ago. I'm around 250lbs now, and I was around 200lbs when I actually got pregnant. Oddly enough, I was on my birth control pills (Yaz) and the birth control wasn't strong enough to keep me from getting pregnant...however, it was weak enough to balance out my hormones and make me ABLE to get pregnant. I'm sure it's a very rare situation, but that's what happened in my case. My ob/gyn was actually surprised that I had my daughter, being that I have every other classic symptom of PCOS....they also told me that I may not be lucky enough the second time around if I choose to have another child.

Nothing is impossible. Remind your friends of that. Anything can happen, just have faith. : )

I know that wasn't really an answer to your question, but I was overweight still with PCOS and it was possible for me to get pregnant.

I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 90.....I was over 313 lbs and many medical issues.  I am happy to say I had bypass in 2006.....have had another baby too and at 162 lbs....my PCOS has not returned although I will always have it...the symptoms are not here.  I hope you are doing well and yes you will feel better even as quick as 3 days after surgery.  I am sure youre feeling great now.  Keep us posted.

Topic: RE: PCOS -- METFORMIN- WEIGHT LOSS
I have only been on Metformin for almost a week.  500mg/day (start taking that dsg twice a day starting tomorrow).   Digestion seems ok...just ...ahem...going more often.   But I can definitely say that my appetite has been "curbed" in a sense.  No real cravings for "crap" food.  I have wanted more water though, which is a good thing.  But I cannot attribute the water desire to the Metformin or possibly the fact that it is very humid hot outside right now.   SO I guess I will see what happens.  But has anyone experienced weight loss on Metformin?  If so, how long did it take to notice it and did it stay consistant or stall out after a time?

I had a IUD placed about 3 months ago but before that my periods were pretty light and lasted maybe 5 days at the most. Some months I would be on for 3 days.

This is great news! Gives me hope knowing someone else is being healed of their PCOS symptoms. Can I ask, are your periods heavier now? I have a period every 4 months, or longer, if they start on their own, without medicine. My periods are usually light and don't last too long if they start on their own, but, if I take meds, such as Prometrium, then they are heavier and last longer.
