Topic: Pcos as an obesity disease
Just wondering if you have any idea....I am very early in the exploration of wls. Does anyone know if pcos is an approved obesity disease. My bmi is 38 and am wondering if having pcos will allow insurance to cover.

Topic: RE: VSG and PCOS

I also have PCOS with almost all of it's "symptoms" it causes. Severe Insulin Resistance. I have tried almost every diet known to man, medications and liquid diets to lose  weight which I have had little sucess. Surgery is my last option. I have a scheduled surgery date of 2/7/12 and originally told the surgeon I wanted the VSG - sleeve but I am rethinking my choice and now considering the Gastric Bypass because I am finding out it is more helpful for people with PCOS then the sleeve because it deals with some hormones that are made in your stomach can anyone who has had either surgery let me know how they liked it and their progress so I can try to get some more information to make an intelligent decision. Thanks

Topic: Prometrium??
I was wondering if anyone has ever been prescribed Prometrium when pregnant?  I had RNY in 2008 in order to battle my PCOS and to get pregnant. I found out this morning that I am finally pregnant and the Dr put me on Prometrium until I'm 12 weeks along.  I've waited so long to have a child that I am so nervous about taking anything. If anyone has any info they can share I would appreciate it.

Topic: cycles worse after rny? what?
i have had pcos for years. inferility all the above, was on metformin for 10 years.  cycles mostly regular, had 2 pregnancies, one baby and now....

i am at my lowest weight in 12 years and my periods are MESSED up!

i always ovulated late in my cycle, but it was always 28 days.
since i started losing weight before surgery and after my cycles are going to 45 days, or skipping a period or 35 days, not ovulating and just bizarre.

i will have a light "period" at 35 days and then ovulation pain 5 days later, lol lots of ovarian cramps and bloating. but i am not ovulating or having a normal cycle anymore.
grr

i thought losing weight was supposed to make things better? has anyone else been thrown completely off by RNY?

ok, i am 35 but seriously i am too young for menopause! lol

should i go with it for a while or see my dr?  i am 10 weeks out from rny and on metformin and thyroids meds per my endocrinologist.

Topic: RE: PCOS and hair loss
I can sympathize big time with all you ladies!! I've been exhibiting the symptoms of PCOS most of my life, but wasn't diagnosed till 5 years ago, and properly treated with meds for about the past year. I've had slowly progressing hair thinning for 10 years now (since I was 21), and being on the pill didn't help, so I'm off now. Even regulating my meds hasn't seemed to help much, and a biopsy done by my dermatologist last year showed that it's androgenetic alopecia, related to the PCOS. One of the surgeons at the many seminars I've been to for WLS suggested that the surgery might actually turn things around for me--because it will "reset" my hormone levels, there's a good chance my hair will grow back. So the question is, do any of you know if he's right? LOL  Is there any hope for me to actually have hair like I used to, before I make it to menopause and it all falls out again? ;)  (Thank goodness, I'm lucky enough that it's only a loss problem--no facial hair to deal with.)

Topic: A lil bout me and the pcos.......

Due to PCOS i have male pattern hairgrowth though controlled, its there and i know, that kills the self esteem.  Until now has made losing weight and having a family all but impossible.  Has caused memuch heart break and stress.

To see it being defeated, with the weightloss and surgery is awesome, granted my weight loss is slow compared to "normal" rny'ers its still coming and staying off.

What are you diet tricks with PCOS?   It impacts my energy, sex drive, mood........sometimes i think i have multiple personalities............due to mood swings...........

Not withthe surgery but with pcos,  when my period would start i would go for weeks, flooding.  usually took medical  intervention to stop.   After so long i went and begged my gyno for a hysterctomy, which he wouldnt do due to my age.  Instead we did the Mirena IUD.  This helped support my hormones, control the periods and eventually eliminate them.

Since surgery i have been very regular, but nothing near the torture i used to go through.  Now the periods are getting lighter and i expect them to stop again at anytime.

I am down 55 lbs to 205!!!  Hope to hit wonderland soon!!!  Good luck hun PCOS is a monster, but it can be controlled.
