Topic: RE: Periods?
i had my surgery 6 months ago, it took about 2 months for my period to start and i only skipped once when my bf and i had a few protective slips and i thought i was pregnant. but its been regular for 3 months comes within the first 10 days and stays about 3 just like it used to when i was 16, my last period i can remember having was july 17th 2004 (i only remember this cause i won a meet and greet pass and met my favorite band and was like of course i have my period when i meet them)

my next period was december of 2011 right after surgery, omg, i forgot how painful cramps were.

I had PCOS since I was 19, had to take Clomid and Provera to get preggers with my #2 son at 21yrs old, got pregnant with #3 12 months later. Had gastric bypass in 05 and 7months post op- on the pill- I got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby. He was 8 weeks early but that was not bypass related- I gained 7pounds total and he was 5lbs 4oz. Keep your chin up, it can happen! I am a mom of four sons and had PCOS!

Topic: RE: Has anyone with PCOS not lost weight after WLS?

Heard from surgeon's office today that i'm approved and we've scheduled surgery for the second week in May.  Excited but nervous.  Hoping so much that I will finally lose weight!!

I had PCOS when I was young and thin, so I don't expect it to go away when i lose weight. I haven't yet had surgery and I am steeling myself to the idea that I will lose slowing because of PCOS and thyroid.  I think that if your PCOS came on after you gained weight, it's a possibility that it will go away with weight loss, but if you had it before the weight, probaby not.  Just my humble opinion tho!

Sorry to say that I'm glad I'm not the only one with this worry.  I had PCOS when I was thin, and I tend to lose weight when I eat more.  I'm hoping that surgery will shock my body into responding to food correctly since I've confused it so badly by not eating.

I have not had surgery yet and have just finished my 6 months of insurance required medically supervised weight loss visits.  My surgical request was submitted 10 days ago, so we should hear something back this week.  I expect them to deny it and the doctor's office expects no trouble getting approval, so we'll see.

Hi Jonesylaine,

I too have PCOS; my diagnosis came during our years of trying to conceive, and afer several years of trying and working with an RE we successfully achieved pregnancy and now have triplets!

This too is my main concern!  After so many years of trying to lose with no success; and I am talking about honest with yourself - truly TRYING.    Will this really help me?

Where are you in your  path Jonesylaine?  Are you having some success?

Topic: RE: What were some signs that you had PCOS?
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17.  It was only discovered after I would go several months without a period then would bleed for extended amounts of time once I got it.  The tipping point for me was when it had been 9 months without a period then once I got it, I had it for 21 days.  I went to a reproductive endocrinologist and that is when it was discovered.  Since then, I have been on the pill and 500 mg of metformin twice a day for maintenance of it.  I really don't have any symptoms beyond that, though.  It really manifests itself differently for everyone.

Did you guys use any form of birth control after having surgery?  I´m scheduled to have surgery May 14, 2012 and have PCOS.  I also have a double uterus.  My fertility specialist seems to think my chances of getting pregnant are slim to none, but I still think I might should use birth control just in case.  Any advice?

ok have not tried metformin after wls, wound up getting prego after wls when i forgot to renew my bcp.  anywhoo. i was considering taking met. and spirionolatone for the hirituism.. how about take one 500 at breakfast and then take the other at dinner. or right before dinner... see what happens then after a week, it may be too much to fast too soon.. or take one whole one at breakfast a half at lunch and a half at dinner..
