Topic: Periods after RNY
Hello! I am almost 8 months post-op. I have had pcos since the age of 13. Periods before surgery were very rare. I could go years without one if I didn't let the doctor know. Well since surgery I've had two. Which is a huge plus for me but they've disappeared again. My main reason for having surgery was to gain my health back but my favorite reason for having surgery was to become pregnant when cleared by my surgeon. I am do scared I'll never get pregnant with the way my periods are now. Can anyone give me a glimpse of hope? Thanks!

I know this is an older post, but anyone see improvement on the facial hair as you continue your journey?  I feel like you guys, its an every day annoyance and embarrassing.  I had both ovaries removed so now its just insulin resistance.  I am planning on having the sleeve sometime the beginning of next year.

Topic: RE: Has anyone with PCOS not lost weight after WLS?
Thanks!  Very impressed with your weight loss!  I'm down about 32-35 lbs, but inches are dropping well too.  The first 20 lbs dropped off quickly, then I stalled for 3.5 weeks, then picked up losing again.  Slow and steady for me, but I'm still losing.  Definitely finding that sleep makes a huge difference in how I lose.  Thanks for letting me know about your progress.  I appreciate it and figure that more women like us might have the same fears and want to see how we're doing.

Hi Jennifer welcome to OH. It a great way to get lots of answers to ALL your questions. I am 32 with PCOS, was DX in 2006 as well. I had my surgery 3-6-2012 so i am 6 mo. post-op. I have had amazing results with my RNY. I have lost 101.5 pounds. Loosing the weight should lesson your syptoms, but will never cure it or make it go away. Youmay still need to use cloemide (fetility pill) to help you concieve later down the road.
So to answer your question, yes you can have PCOS, you can have WLS, and you WILL loose weight with it. Sometimes I go through stages where I loose rapidly, then I will platue a week or so, then it will kick start again.
Good luck with everything!! Hope this helped!

I to have PCOS, My surgery was march 6th, 2012. As of now i am 6 months post op. I have lost 101.5 pounds, and thats having exteme PCOS symptoms, so looing the weight can be done. I will loose steady for a week or so then platue for a week or so and back and forth, but I do loose the weight. At the time of my surgery, i had been on my mentrual cycle for 8 months straight, yes you read that right!!! about 3 weeks after my surgery i stopped briefly for about a week, then started again and still going to this day!. I just this week went to my doctor about it and he is doing some blood work, and then getting me into a obgyn. I have an obgyn, but I honestly try to avoid him because he tell me he wants me to have a histerectomy or an ablasion. which i really don't want to do just yet, because of hopes of having 1 more baby. I have 1 biological and adopted 3, but was hoping that if I had the surgery, lost the weight, decreased my pocs symptoms that I would have a better chance of getting pregnant again. my obgyn had me on metaphormin 1500mg a day and it did not touch my syptoms at all!.  hope this helps and I wish you the best!

Topic: RE: What were some signs that you had PCOS?
I just recently was told I have pcos. I am 54 when i was in my 20"s when apparently this all started I gained 50lbs in 3 months started getting facial hair, High Blood pressure was going to a fertility doctor on clomid he told me i was to fat to get pregnant. When I finally had a period that lasted a whole year at age 33 they did a hysterectomy on me, said because i had cysts. never was I tested for pcos. I was tested for thyroid but it came back ok so he thought i was just eating to much. I developed alot of other symptoms and my weight skyrocketed where i'm 180lbs overweight.. 2 yrs ago I started going to a Natupathic doctor. she found i had pcos. I'm being treated with metformin 1500mg a day and spirlactone and progetrone. I was suppose to have gastric bypass surgery last year but my insurance back out at the final approval. I lost my appeal. I since have been unable to work and I am on Social Security, I get my medicare in October I'm hoping they will pay for me to have surgery. I have heard they do if you meet certain criteria. I would like to be able to walk again and have a life again.  so if you think you have pcos make them run the blood tests don't take no for an answer. I never got to have my own baby, i wonder if they would have tested for this back then if I would have been able to.
