I'm almost 6 months out from VSG. I hadn't had a period in 12 1/2 years then BAM! Totally wasn't expecting it. I'm glad, but not at the same time. I'm happy my body is working again, but now I gotta deal with all the stuff that comes with it, lol.

I have pcos. After lapband & losing 75lbs I got pregnant- I then miscarried at ten weeks. Then 3 months later I got pregnant again. I now have an amazing little boy. He's almost 5 months old. Losing weight has a huge impact on pcos symptoms & fertility! I have gained most of my weight back &  am again back to dieting.

HI !  I have PCOS too!  My endocrinologist recommend RNY because a hormonal change happens at the time of surgery and/or immediately in recovery. They see this change in diabetics and those with other hormonal issues.

Since your GI tract isnt being stapled/cut/rerouted in Lap band, she did not think that lap band would correct the hormonal problem.

Hence she recommended RNY.  I am metformin free for two months now!

RNY Surgery: 12/31/2013;

Current weight (2/27/2015) 139lbs, ~14% body fat

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !

Was your band covered by your insurance even though you have pcos? I don't if its considered a pre-existing condition etc THANKS!

I had the gastric sleeve on feb 18. I hadn't had a cycle in over 6 months but I started doing what you are then it stopped for two days and then hit me hard after that. I'm making up for those 6 months without one. I was just guessing that my hormones changed after surgery and my body is still getting use to everything.

Perhaps talking with your family would ease some questions. Holding back information and only telling half truths is not fair to your family.

I had severe PCOS and did the sleeve 11 months ago.  Within 4 months my cycles were regular and lasting 1/2 the time as before.  I also have lost 75% of my excess weight.  My surgeon said sleeve you typically can expect 60-70% of excess weight loss.  RNY is more extreme but is a better option for those that don't feel like they can control what they eat.  I've been diligent about lean protein and limiting carbs.  Talk with your dr extensively before you decide what is right for you!

I have been diagnoses with pcos  since puberty. After two miscarriages my doctor told me I wouldn't be able to carry full term. After talking with the doctors at my WLC they said that after losing weight I will become very fertile and will more than likely be able to have children. I was wondering if any WL vets have had success after surgery that struggled before hand.

Thanks,

Sarahjane

I know this post was from a few weeks ago, but just thought I'd chime in.  I too have PCOS. Sounds like you might have it.  Read my profile.  I went to a reproductive endocrinologist who diagnosed me. My PCP and regular obgyn did not catch it.
