Hang in there. Your body IS going haywire right now. I too had some major hormonal problems right after surgery including continuous spotting (possibly due to the estrogen in my fat cells being excreeted into my system), faster facial hair growth and PMS. You have to ride this wave and give your body a chance to stabalize (I would give it a good 6 months). Once the weight loss slows youw ill notice a difference. I have never taken Aldactone but I have had acne issues. It DID get a bit worse after surgery (cystic acne) and then went away. I now only get acne around my period.
Topic: RE: Question about sweating???
Thank you so much, that is a relief to hear!! It truely does suck!!! I feel like I stink all the time, and am never clean, no matter how many showers a day I take! I can't do anything without sweating, I know that it is hormones but I still feel like there is something they could do for us. My doctors all just look at me like "tough sh--" . I can't wait to have my surgery. I am tired of being the fat sweaty girl. When did you have yours? How are you doing? When I went to my consult with my surgeon, he said that almost all of the symptoms of my PCOS would deminish. I hope he is right. I am going to look at the links that you gave me, thank you. Please keep in touch, Cindy.

Irman,
I'm sorry this is so late, I just don't come on this board very often... Anyway, I also have PCOS (diagnosed over 30 years ago) and I had RNY 6 years ago. I have had wonderful success, lost 217 lbs and my PCOS has actually gotten a bit better. I LOVE my RNY... I haven't had any problems with malabsortion, in fact my labs come back wonderful every time. I do take 2 multi vitamins, calcium, iron and medication for allergies but that's it. No more Diabeties, high blood pressure, high choloestrol, acid refulx, heart problems, or joint pain.. I know I'm forgetting something - ugh! Anyway, I'm having laser/electrolosys for the facial hair (looking great!), but I'm feeling wonderful and haven't been this healthy as long as I can remember... I would talk with your doc about your concerns... I'm sure he'll have the most up to date information.
Best of luck to you!!!

Topic: RE: pcos after RNY ????
Because of my pcos i sometimes wouldn't have a period for 4 years. i had to get on bc before surgery and they didn't want me taking oral meds so it was either depo or nuva ring. i chose the depo and i really regret it. i get my period every 2 months now and it lasts 3 weeks. guess i'm making up for lost time! unlike you, i do want children. that's one reason why i had wls. i think you're plenty old enough to decide to get a tubal so keep doc hunting. you'll find one that will do it.
Topic: RE: insulin resistance - please read!
I've already had my WLS (RNY), but like the OP I still had the same questoins. I am really encouraged to hear about the symtoms lessening and going away. I am getting laser hair removal to make that awful hair go away and I feel like because I am finally losing weight for real that the hormone problems that would otherwise make the hair grow back (as well as cause all those other lovely symptoms of PCOS) are beginning to get under control.
One question that I do have --- my internist suggested that I no resume BCPs so I can see how I do on my w/ my cycles. I am going to check with my PCOS doctor to see what he thinks. I am all for NOT being on yet another medication, but I am hesitant only because I know that the BCP I've been prescribed (Zovia) is supposed to be really helpful when it comes to counteracting androgen levels and thus helping with the hirsutism and acne.
I'm also not taking metformin, and my NUT said met would probably be overkill since I'm eating so little these days.

Topic: pcos and post-op exacerbation
i had my rny on 8/5. i am down by 34 pounds. my hormones are haywire. i went off my ocp 2 months prior to the surgery... i restarted those this week. i also stopped taking my aldactone post-op because i didn't want to get dehydrated. however, my hair is shedding and my facial hair is worse than it has ever been. i'm so down about it. i restarted the aldactone at 50 mg daily (was on 200 mg) in the hopes that it will help somewhat. i'm also having acne. not my usual pre-period perioral breakout, but huge bumps on my neck. that hasn't happened since adolescence! so my question is, does it get worse before it begins to get better? and for those of you on aldactone before the surgery, did you continue it after the surgery?
Topic: RE: Anyone still ravenous after RNY or similar WLS?
omg, i'm glad i'm not the only one with this! i had my rny on 8/5 and i recently started getting very, very hungry at night. i'm still doing mostly protein shakes and cottage cheese or tofu due to some vomiting issues with other food. sometimes drinking water helps and sometimes i just have to live with it until i fall asleep.
