Hi, I'm having RNY in August, too. Toronto East General with Dr. Cyriak. I have PCOS and dark hairs on my arms, dark patches, skin tags. Hope it goes well for you!
I have PCOS and had RNY 6 months ago. I will say that like most people who posted, I have had regular periods since surgery. I wasn't expecting that! Personally, I choose the RNY because it has more long term research and is the gold standard. My other symptoms, such as excess hair growth, has not slowed down. BUT, my A1C went from 6.4 to 5.2 n 6 months. My fasting glucose and insulin were both normal! My surgeon said that PCOS shouldn't affect my weight loss and I have lost 84 lbs since surgery and 95 lbs overall...right on schedule for my weight loss center. I have posted this same question before and most people say that they did not have a drastic improvement with symptoms. I am okay with that as it is manageable.
Good luck with your journey!

Im so sorry that you are going through all of this! First off, congrats on your weight loss! I know what its like to want a baby and not be able to conceive it is unimaginable to those who have not been through it. Even though i had what i consider to be a "mild" secondary infertility and i was able to become pregnant again I will never forget what i went though. I found alot of support on soulcyters forums as well. Havent been on there in a while since that baby is now about to turn 4 but i encourage you to check it out if you havent already it is strictly based on pcos but the have a infertility forum.

I had RNY on June 11, 2013. My surgeon agreed to let me start back trying to conceive at 1 year postop. I haven't prevented pregnancy since December 2013. I have had one long 6 month period, had to see a fertility specialist to get it to stop with medication.
We tried to conceive for 6 years prior to my surgery and I expected it to be easier now that I've lost nearly 200 lbs. No suck luck!
that's awesome! Been fighting PCOS for about 12 years, maybe longer.... having surgery later this summer, and I can't wait. Good luck and I hope things keep getting better for you!
I am 4 months post op today down 66lbs. I have had 2 normal periods in the last 4 months. I feel like I am getting ready for a 3rd. The facial hair is less!!!!
I am starting to feel like a girl again!
I only have 1 dark patch and it is on my elbow... I don't worry much about it. Now for the first time in 20 years I am starting to worry about Birth control
GoodLuck!!! So far I have NO Regrets!!!
been dealing with PCOS and all the embarrasing symptoms since I was about 12. I'm having RNY, probably in August. Can't wait! My question is... after surgery, did you notice improvement in symptoms? Periods get anywhere near normal? I have really bad facial hair, has that gotten any better for anyone? what about the dark patches of skin?
