Good luck making your decision...it's not an easy one to make.  My insurance covered only the RNY & Lapband at the time.  I chose the RNY as it best fit my needs for weight loss.  The lapband is just too high maintenance for me with all the fills & unfills...plus a big factor was the overall average weight loss.  At the time I had surgery it was 75-80% for RNY & 55-60% for lapband.  I refused to go through surgery & still be fat.

You mentioned that the RNY people didn't look good afterwards...is it because they lost too much weight?  Is it the excess skin?  Just not look healthy?  Are they taking all of their vitamins?  Just trying to figure it out...

Anyway I started out at 254lb and at my 1 year was at 140lb.  I've maintained that weight (give or take 5lb) for the past 3 years since I've reached goal.  Of course there have been 2x where I've gained 25-30lb but those 2 times were for good reason...pregnancy!  Anyway if you have more questions about the RNY & PCOS let me know...I'd be happy to talk to you.  Good luck making your decision!

I haven't yet, but I'm planning to.  Most dr.s recommend that you wait until goal but they don't have any problem with it.  You might get more of a response if you visit the CSG forum.  they are all very helpful and there have been some people over there that have achieved pregnancy post op.

Topic: RE: New here! Anyone with PCOS have Lap-band surgery?
 Hi,
I can only answer 2 of your questions so far because I only just got banded November 11, 2008
#1 My symptoms: Major weight gain for no reason, male pattern baldness, increased hair growth in yucky places, depression, irregular periods, major fatigue and unexplained exhaustion, cysts popping which caused major pain in left ovary, ligament pain during periods, severe insulin resistance.PLUS all this caused adult onset asthma, severe sleep apnea and compromised immune system.
#7 Pe-op: qualify for surgery by having a BMI of 42.3, meeting with a shrink, meeting with a nutrionist(Nut), joining a WLS support group, Sleep apnea study(did that on my own), physical with primary care physician(PCP) and blood work, 2 consults with bariatric surgeon and deal with Insurance.
I hope what little info I could give was helpful. If you have any other ?'s private message me and we can talk.

Great job being pro-active. The Metformin aka Glucophage can really help. I was pregnant with my second daughter within 3 months of starting the Metformin. Beware of serious diarhea when you start, if it's bad ask for the extended release formula. Good luck fellow cyster.

Topic: RE: VANIQA Questions
I just got my first tube of it about a week ago.  I am trying to remember to use it twice a day, but sometimes I forget one application.  The patient info says that it will take about 4 weeks to start seeing strong results, however, I feel that it has helped the areas on my chin that just grow a hair or two already.

It was $65 for me, I got it at Target.  I know there aren't Targets in Canada, but for the other PCOSers out there in the states, Target does price match other pharmacies (Costco is usually cheapest) - I just forgot to shop around before I got mine.

I am really hoping it works.  I am so sick of the beard!

Hi Tbeard, I have been lurking for the past couple of weeks. I orginally set up this account awhile ago left the boards when I found out my insurance would not cover it. Now I have insurance that covers RNY and Lap. Last weekend I went the a seminar at Centennial and decided to go thru with the surgery. I am getting really excited. I decided to respond to your post since you are also in Nashville. I am in my 2nd month of 6 months supervised diet. Get luck with your decision on which surgery to have.

Finally I got a period after 4months I have lost about 25 pounds but i have 9 more pound to go for insurance requirements. I have struggled to get them 25 pounds off  with perscription Meridia. I'm still in limbo about what surgery im going to do. i know a few people who has the R.N.Y that dont look to hot. I heard the DS patients have a bbo. the lap is out of the question now because i dont like the thought of  being stuck some many times. The sleeve is not cover by BCBS of TN.

Im currently 252lbs

Hey! I'd love to meet some people on here that have PCOS & have had weight loss surgery or will be getting it. My doctors are telling me that WLS can completely reverse my pcos... and if I keep my weight down, I will hardly have any symptoms the rest of my life. For those of you that have had it, do you find this true? My surgery will be in MAY... I'm really excited. Nothing has helped me and it's been so frustrating.

PS: Anyone from PA/// ? Even better Pittsburgh area?
