Hello... I understand your concern.  I'm 46 years old and had RNY over 6 years ago, I've lost 217lbs and feel great, this is the most healthy I've ever been.  I have looked into plastic surgery to firm up the tummy area but truthfully it's not too bad.  If I would have had the choice 6 years ago I probably would have looked into the Sleeve and the Lap Band but I think I would have still made the RNY decision because of the amount of weight I wanted to loose and the results.  There is always something about every procedure.  Anyway, good luck to you - I just wanted to put my .2 cents in...

Topic: RE: Slower Weightloss due to PCOS??
I would not blame PCOS for the rate of weight loss.  Remember that how fast you loose is individual, no one looses at the same rate.  Personally I think that 70lb in 5 months is great!  Honestly, when was the last time you lost 70lb in 5 months?  If you are that concerned about the PCOS slowing your weight loss have your doc run a fasting insulin level to see if you're insulin resistant or not.  IF you are, maybe adding Metformin could aide in weight loss.

Regardless I think you're doing great.  Have you taken measurements?  I remember in the loosing stages for me when it seemed like the pounds were going no where I ended up loosing inches instead.  Also remember too that from time to time you're weight loss will stall as your body needs time to 'readjust' and start loosing again.  Just keep up on your exercise, protein & water and you'll be fine.  Good luck and don't give up!

Topic: Anyone have an ablation procedure?
Hi --
I've never posted on this board before, but wanted to see if I could get some feedback.  To give you a little background, I first had surgery scheduled for 11/10/08.  After the first 5 days of my preop liquid diet, I started hemorrhaging after not having a cycle for 5 months.  Also, my brother who is terminally ill went into the hospital and I decided to postpone my surgery until things settled down a bit.  Due to my insurance, I switched GYN, and she is the first person who has mentioned PCOS to me.  I am still waiting for bloodwork to come back to confirm the diagnosis, but after everything I've read, it resonates true with me.  She suggested an endometrial ablation, and I am scheduled to have it done on Monday (12/15).  She thinks it may help with the  bleeding as I begin losing weight..
Has anyone else had this procedure done, and what's your experience with it?

I have not heard anything about this. I know some doctors prefer one surgery over another for those with PCOS.

Topic: Slower Weightloss due to PCOS??
Hello, I'm new to this board.  I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with PCOS.  I have been overweight for as long as I can remember.  I tried everything under the sun to loose weight and always had to work really hard to loose just a little bit of weight, once I gave up I would gain back everything I had lost times two.  My OB/GYN said that the PCOS contributed to this and she is actually the one that suggested that I look into WLS.  I had gastric bypass on 7/2/08, I've lost 70 pounds so far but 20 of that was in the first two weeks (due to lactose issues I had to stay on a clear liquid diet).  Since then the weightloss has been a lot slower.  I am just over 5 months out and still lack at least 5-10 pounds before I'm even half way to my goal.  I know that things slow down a lot after 6 months so I am scared to death that  I won't get any where close to my goal.  Could it be the PCOS that is making my weightloss so much slower?

Thanks!!
Christina

Topic: RE: IR & WLS FAILURE LINK?
I'm not entirely sure but do know that when my IR became 'out of control' I did gain a lot of weight pre op.  I'm interested in what he says about the link.  I remember my initial fasting insulin was 95...FAR above the 'normal' range of <20.  Good luck with your blood test!

Topic: RE: PCOS and TTC
I too stopped my Metformin the day before surgery and luckily have not needed to go back on it since my surgery almost 4.5 years ago.  Prior to surgery I too never ovulated, but you're lucky...you at least did ovulate with Clomid, I was found to be Clomid resistant as I got to the max doseage with no response.  I'm happy to report that once I hit my goal weight of 140lb at 1 year post op I was not only cycling on my own but according to my temps (recorded at fertilityfriend.com) I was ovulating as well!  We waited 3 months after I reached goal to finish a medication I was taking for a + TB skin test (but - chest xray) and timed BD with ovulation according to my temps and immediately got pregnant.  I had a healthy pregnancy & baby girl.  Then earlier this year I temped again and once again timed BD with ovulation and got pregnant immediately again!  So far this pregnancy has been a little more difficult (basically I had some spotting in the beginning & due to baby size my back hurts more but that's it) but has been healthy and she'll be here next Monday.

Anyway I've never used the OPKs or fertility monitors, just my temps.  But if you want to use them in conjunction with your temps go for it!  Good luck!

Topic: IR & WLS FAILURE LINK?

Hey guys

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and wondered if IR was the reason for WLS failure or (severe regain) in most post op women?

(IR=insulin resistance)

My dr is going to test my insulin levels tomorrow and then go from there.

ANY advice or info/input will be greatly appreciated!
