Topic: RE: Periods after WLS

My periods act the same way. What I found out is that your ovaries (or ovary, in my case) is making up for lost time. That is why your menses are so long. The light periods are from the depo shot. The way the shot is designed, it is basically putting you in premature stages of menopause. Most women gain weight, terrible moods swings, hot flashes almost in identical patterns with menopause. Your period got heavier in december because you skipped the shot and it was trying to catch up with things. With PCOS, since our ovulation is so untrustworthy, we cannot follow a menstration cycle similar to regular women. Especially if you expect one 4years apart. The WLS has alot to do with it too. When you lose more weight, you will notice your menses will come more frequently and eventually begin to regulate itself. This happens because you are losing weight, and you hormones are neutralizing. That is also why your knuckles and neck are lightening up. Obviously, I'm not a gynecologist. I'm only speaking from personal experience. (Not Pre-op, that is) My initial advice was to probably go back to the pill. It has a much better result, since it's not temporarily putting you thru menopause, which could be harmful for PCOS women. Our bodies are not the same as regular women and shouldn't be treated as such. Most GYN's don't even offer that as an option in my area... Which one, I couldn't tell you. It's different for women. And it's a good idea to talk to your GYN. He/She will have most the answers.

Best of luck,

Whitney

Topic: RE: PCOS and Extreme Dry Hair
I've been diagnosed with PCOS since 15. I'm 23 now, and I can tell you the the hair loss in the middle region of your scalp is textbook. Some women, however don't experience hair loss; but hair growth in unwanted areas. I myself am (i hate saying it) balding in the middle region of my scalp and have excruciatingly dry hair too. A vitamin deficiency might be the cause, but I doubt it. PCOS is a hormone deficiency, targeting high levels of both testosterone and estrogen. It throws our bodies out of whack. In my opinion, I would speak to an endicrinologist before a dermatologist. She/He may know better.

Best of luck,

Whitney

Topic: Periods after WLS
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago.  My periods were anywhere from 6 months to 4 years apart.  Before I had WLS my surgeon wanted me to get on birth control.  In may i had my first dose of the depo shot.  In july i got my period and it lasted 3 weeks but was very light.  I got my second shot on august 12th and had wls august 26th.  i started my period on september 5th and it lasted until the beginning of december, again very light.  i thought the shot was making me menstruate because i had always heard that you get it all the time or not at all.  i was due for the depo again in november but chose not to continue.  after my period ended in december, it was back a week later, and heavy still today, 3 weeks later.  i plan on calling my gyn this week but i wondered if anyone here had any experience with this.  now i don't know if my bleeding is from the depo or from the surgery.  i think my pcos is improving because my knuckles are no longer dark and my velvetty neck is almost gone.  please share any knowledge ya'll have on this subject, i am so frustrated, and anemic, lol!!
thanks

Can anyone tell me how to post a picture on my avatar. Every time I try it keeps saying that it is too big or something like that. Anyway I don't have any other pictures besides the ones I have posted in my picture book.

Topic: Update
Sorry that it took me so long everyone. We got good news the other day my dads work got a big order so they are told that they will be workin till at least Feb. 15th my surgery is schedualed for Feb. 4th so I will get it in before he gets laid off if that happens. Hopefully they will get more jobs and he will be able to keep his job but as far as surgery goes fingers crossed he will have a job till the 15th. My mom is also startin to come around a little bit she is at least able to be in the room when I am talkin to other people about surgery. So I think that the time will come. I think that everyone was right when they said that when she realizes that I am goin to do it with or without her support that she figures she might as well support me I know she don't agree with what I am doin but that is not what I am askin for. Anyway thanks for all the kind words and advise things are goin to go well I have no choice but to stay postitive. The thing that is worring me is being alone during the hospital stay and not havin any calls or cards or visitors but I will be ok. my best friend said that it might be a relaxing thing not to be botherd but I think that I would just get lonely and depressed. I have been reading peoples blogs and reading about their bad hospital stays that worries me too. But I got a long time to worry about them things. Hope that everyone had a good holiday!! Happy almost 2009 it will be a new life for me and I can't wait!!.

P.S. I am lookin for a few pen pals I think that I need that support to help me through it so if anyone would be interested or if you know someone who would be a good fit shoot me a private message thanks for everything!!!

Topic: PCOS and Extreme Dry Hair
I was diagnosed with PCOS in october 2008 but who knows i have had it before being diagnosed. Anyway I have been experiencing extreme dry hair that no matter how much oil, hair grease, conditioner, moisterizer I put in it seems to get dry a day or two later. Lately I have been losing hair it seems a lot. I haven't been to the salon lately but I think I may need to see a dermatologist. Also I loss most of my hair from the middle. It is driving me crazy.

I don't understand how progesterone could get you pregnant.  I was also taking before my RNY to start my period.  Is that why it would help, cause it would start your period?  I dont get it, someone explain please?
