I would go to a womens clinic in your area, like a planned parenthood or something like that.  I know lots of uninsured women use them to get Rxs for birth control.  I think you should at least get checked out, and they might be more of an affordable option.  Call the clinic in your area, and find out what any fees might cost, and then make the decision.  Your health is most important, and try to scrape together the money.

The past 3 months I have had 2 periods a month or at least 1 and spotting 2 weeks later for a few days.  My ovaries are in constant pain.  I dont have insurance, so not sure what to do, try and wait it out or pay to go to the DR.  What should I do?

I too have PCOS and am "hairy" as well.  I wanted a hysterectomy when I found out that would help with the hair growth and such but was told that due to my age ( I was 20 ) at the time that they would not give me one due to liability reasons ( wanting children in the future if able to ). Well here I am 31 and no kids!  I did not have a problem with dropping the weight after my surgery, and the hair growth has slowed, don't know if its due to the weight  or the MANY laser hair removal sessions!!  I think that everyone after the surgery is different with weight loss and further out gaining whether they have pcos or not.  Hope this was somewhat helpful!
Good Luck,
Andrea

Most doctors wont do a hysterectomy unless other treatments arent working. What treatments have you had fr your PCOS?

With weight loss some of your issues from your PCOS may correct themselves. I am almost 4 months out from my surgery and hve lost 93 lbs from my highest weight. My periods are almost normal. I have had 3 cycles since my surgery. I dont have issues with hair growth, so I dont have any insight for you on that one.

Some with PCOS have found that the weight after WLS doesnt come off as quickly, but others have not found that to be the case.

this is exactly what I was wondering!!  If you have pecos and your life (family, age, etc etc) permits it why can't you get a hysterectomy to solve it?   Sorry , I have no anwsers but I'm glad things are working out for you.   I'll sit back and see what everyone else says now....

I am about as uninformed as they come about this right now, so please don't flame me.   I (and my sister) were wondering if I have pecos (which I do) why they can't just do a hysterectomy or something similar and rectify it??

I'm just beginning my research on this and will appreciate kind information.  I am hopeing to have the DS not too long from now.  I'm pretty sure WL will be a good thing for this.

I rarely have a period and have quite abit of facial hair (heck, I'm hairy all over).  I've had dr.s look at my forearms and ask if I've been tested for hirismu (sp?).  I have, it's negative.

Anyway how does pecos affect your weight loss after WLS?

I am so happy for you & I don't even know you!!!!  I am new to the PCOS forum...I am having lap RNY in February 2009 & was looking around when I came across your post.  I want you to know that I couldn't agree more...miracles DO happen...I was dx'd w/PCOS in 2001 after 13 months ttc...docs told me that I had to lose weight (I weighed about 275 pounds)...so, I went on Atkins & Metformin (Glucophage) lost 67 pounds...my periods came back & I was ovulating w/the help of Clomid....then, in January of 2002 our first miracle happened....and she was born happy & healthy (9 pounds 3 oz) in October of 2002!  But wait.....in August of 2005 (w/the help of Metformin & Clomid) our second miracle was born (10 pounds 2 oz)....and...SUR-PRIZE in March of 2007 our THIRD miracle...our little boy...was born (a REAL shock!) because we were done, not on Clomid & not even "trying" to have a third baby!!! So.....get ready for a FANTASTIC ride being a Mommy....there is nothing that even comes close to the transformation that you will go through over the next 7 months....it is truly amazing!

Now just FORGET about that (annoying) percentage of miscarriages and remember that I am here to say that just because you have PCOS doesn't mean that you will miscarry...I am at 100%--never had a miscarriage & have three healthy little ones (6, 3 & 21 months now!)....just keep thinking that PCOS makes it hard for you to get preggers, but once you do, you are home free....think positive & go by something pink & something blue....whichever you don't use you can donate or give away, but you will remember the first item you bought for your little one forever!!

Best wishes Mommy!!!  :), Micheala.

Thank you so much for your reply! I have seen the many soulcysters threads swearing by insulite! I am very excited to get started on them! I only wish I could buy them cheaper on ebay.... the 100 a month is a bit much for me. But I will deffinately get to it ASAP!

Thanks again
Rachel

Rachel,

Hi.  I tried the Insulite several months ago before surgery.  I quit after 1 month because my surgeon's office wanted me to stop all herbal medicine before surgery b/c they have had some problems with patient's bleeding from herbs.  However, when I took them, they really seemed to help.  My hair growth on my chin slowed down, my moods stabilzed, my energy increased, and I actually lost about 5 pounds.  I have not started back on them b/c I just had my surgery (12/23) and there is no way I could take all those pills right now.  They are lots of pills to get use to taking and I had some stomach cramping at first from them.  I actually cut the doses in half for the first 2 weeks to help with that.  I would totally recommend at least trying them b/c they did work for me.  Also, there is a group of ladies on www.soulcysters.com who swear by them and have been using them for quite some time.  Good luck to you!!

Topic: RE: Pregnancy after WLS
I was told that I had PCOS and that I would be unable to conceive due to my weight - which was 304 lbs at the time.  After WLS Sept 2005, I lost 120 lbs and suddenly discovered that I was pregnant!  We weren't even trying!  My son was 15 yrs old at the time and I wasn't looking to get pregnant.  I'm glad that I was able to and have since gotten pregnant AGAIN!  I now have a 17 yr old son, 22 mth old son and 7 mth old son!  I'm  DONE!!  I got the Mirena!  I couldn't bear the thought of finally being able to conceive and the doctors wanting to tie my tubes!  Unfortunately, the Mirena (I've read) causes some people to gain weight.  I had no other options though.  I can tell you that I've lost my baby weight and gained other weight since May.  I'm back up to my pregnancy weight already since July when I had the device "installed".  I've been down the road with having to take the fertility drugs and wondering every month if we were pregnant yet.  I remember during my WLS conference, the surgeon got up there and started telling us to be careful, b/c we could definitely get pregnant.  I thought to myself, "What does he know?  I have PCOS!  I've tried for 7 years and it isn't going to suddenly happen for us now!"  Well, He KNEW!  haha  The babies are my husband's first babies and he is thrilled!  I'm a little overwhelmed raising a teen, toddler and infant!  Keeping my fingers crossed in the new year that I'll be able to lose the new weight again!  I don't want to remove the Mirena b/c my only other option is tubal ligation.  Hope I've been a little helpful!
