I am about to give TMI.....
I was diagnosed at 11 with PCOS maintained my weight even though I started steroid injections into my abdomen. I had cycles that lasted 4 months not missing a single day. Cycle was so heavy I needed a Super Plus tampon and Liner and changed them every 30 minutes sometime I could make it to 45 minutes. I would then be cycle free for 2 months before the next 4 months of hell began. Thanks to steroids even though I lived on a gluten free sugar free diet for 7 years and worked out 18-22 hours a week, my weight sky rocketed. They had doubled my steroids due to colon and uterine cancer. I gained over 140 lbs in 6 months. In order to get off my steroids this surgery was a must. 13 years of steroids and weight that was not removable - I was over it. Absolutely sick to my stomach when I saw myself in the mirror. Felt guilty my 5 year old had a mother who looked like I did. I didn't gain weight from food or inactivity, I was literally just swollen. I didn't have my first cycle after surgery until month 2 almost month 3. I bled a ridiculous amount so I was scared to see what my next cycle would bring....
a month later came my next cycle... 7 days!!! ONLY 7 DAYS!!!!! AND I WAS ABLE TO USE A REGULAR TAMPON WITH NO LINER!!!!!! I got so excited I called my mom and husband lol. That was the most wonderful day Id ever had regarding my cycle. The next month came... Day 7 it stopped again!!!! regulars again!!!! I am now 8 months post op and do not cry when my cycle starts!!!!! and my cyst have not regrown!!!!!!!!! Usually a month after having them removed they are back! And it has been 5 months!!!!!
This Surgery has been a huge blessing. I paid out of pocket the full amount, and would totally do it again!!!!!
I'm almost 7 weeks post op and have still not gotten a period. Everyone is different. Eventually you should! Some people just take longer to get it. I wouldn't be concerned yet. Your body is still going through a major change and your hormones are probably all over the place causing your period to not come. Hopefully it will come soon! Best of luck!
You could just be hitting the dreaded 3 week stall. Same exact thing happened to me. I didn't lose too much after the 3rd week and it lasted about 2 weeks. I'm finally just starting to lose again. Your body is probably in shock from everything. I am 6 weeks out and still struggling with some symptoms. Just hang in there! I lost hope too and just decided to stop weighing myself and stay compliant. Your body holds a lot of water and is most likely losing fat, but since you have so much water in you, it's not showing. Just keep doing what you're doing and all should be well! Best of luck :)
I was 6 weeks post op before I got mine.l Everyone is different Give it some time...
I had Gastric Bypass on 2/24/14 PCOS was my driving force for this. I had lots of worried tons! I knew I would be the 1 person that it wouldn't work for because of my PCOS. PCOS had killed every weight loss attempt for 20 years. I have lost 112lbs! I lost 20 on my pre op liquid diet and averaged about 10lbs per month for the 1st 6 months. that last few months it is more like 8lbs a month.
All of my PCOS symptoms are either gone or going away.
It works! Good Luck
I recently had Gastric bypass surgery on 10/21 as a last resort to hopefully put my Type II into remission and alleviate some symptoms of PCOS. While my Type II has gone into remission, am still struggling through the issues of PCOS. Whats more, I've only lost 17 lbs in the month since surgery and have been very compliant.
Am thankful to have a little relieve but at the same time, completely frustrated with the slow weight loss and persistent PCOS symptoms. Has anyone else experienced the same? I am beginning to lose hope.
You had me at remission of hirtuism. Man, I hope that's true
As do I. I have been waiting for 18 years for it to go away...at least get better. Unfortunately, with time it has only gotten worse. It is definitely one statistic that I hope to be true.
I had WLS in May of 2012. I had been diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin resistance. My insulin levels are great, the hair on my face and neck is reduced (instead of shaving/waxing every few days I can go months). My cycles were somewhat regular 30-35 days before surgery but now are 28 days exactly.
I did not have cysts on my ovaries so can't speak to that symptom. I'm not trying to get pregnant so can't really comment on fertility but I do track my cycles and my fertility signs have increased.

There are actually 4 types of PCOS. I have one type, my daughter has another. Took me 9 years to conceive, but I bleed 24/7-365 a year (unless I was on the pill - which I still am at 49). My adult daughter has always had normal periods. My testerone levels are high, hers are normal. Do a search for 4 types of PCOS. I'm sure you'll be able to locate which one you have. And yes, it does sound like you have it. Oh and I should note, I was thin my entire young adult life until I went to college and felt that at 5'4" I wasn't thin enough (my dad always told me how pretty I'd be if I just lost weight), at 125lbs. So I extreme dieted and exercised down to 108 and did some modeling. I was finally thin, but hungry and exhausted. I finally just went back to "regular" eating and gained 60lbs in 6 months. That's when all the problems began and that was over 30years ago. My daughter has always been a little rounder than the other girls, but has never gotten to be my size. We of course has her insulin levels checked (have your FASTING insulin levels checked) at 12 years old and they were all whacked out. We got her on Metformin then and she has slimmed down and done great. She knows NOT to extreme diet though. ;) Hope that helps.
