Thought I'd drop this forum a note. TLC has a new show starting in Jan. and I recall the girl they are following has PCOS. Looks like it is going to be a good one.

I had one about 3 weeks post op, but the next one was 8 weeks later. All my pcos basically went away after the surgery. But it took about 3 months for my body to work itself out. Ended up with a cyst the 2nd cycle after surgery (longest cycle so far). Ever since I have ovulated every time, have the ewcm and all. My body hasn't worked normally ever. The only issue is the crazy heavy cycles, but that is because of iron issues.
I would say give it 90 days and if nothing then go to your gyn.
We had our surgery the same day! I had a teeny tine bit of something like a period almost exactly four weeks out. 1-2 days of flow, enough where I needed a pad or something, but nowhere near what I was used to. I started BC pills that next day (Nov 10th) and everything went great. Last week, Sunday the 23rd, I started my period in earnest, and it's been going ever since. This is my first "true" cycle in almost 7 months (pregnancy, miscarriage, PCOS complications, etc all led to the HUGE gap in my cycle).
I fully expect my cycles and my hormones to be a little wonky for the next few months just because of the rapid changes going on in my body. I wouldn't worry too awfully much at this point, but def call your GYNO if you don't see any action in another few weeks.
My periods have been regular since surgery and before surgery I rarely got one. I am taking diane-35 as a birth control, not sure if that makes a difference. I did notice my first period after surgery was especially hellish, maybe because I was off Diane-35 for a month. Severe cramps and extra heavy period. Since back on Diane periods are lighter and more manageable. I would not worry about it for now, as other have said your body has been through a lot and is probably just adjusting itself. Give it a few more months and see how things go. Let us know how it turns out.

I am 3.5 months out and I hear you about the stalls, it can be really hard. I try my best to only weigh myself once a week in order to not become obsessed with the scale. Thank you for posting, it is nice to have other women with PCOS to talk to about our particular issues.

Thank you so much for posting this! I am only 3.5 months out myself and was wondering how things might be in the long run with my PCOS, this gives me hope! I have the same fear regarding it not working, but so far so good. So far I have lost 45 pounds since surgery, so roughly 13 pounds per month overall. But not steadily at all, have had several stalls where I lost nothing or gained for 3 weeks. Then I would lose literally 8-10 pounds in one week! I have noticed I get very anxious and irritable so that I can hardly function every once in a while. Whenever this happens I get on the scale and it never fails that I have lost weight, usually at least 3 pounds. Does this happen to you too? Must be my hormones adjusting themselves but I really wi**** would go away, I feel so rotten when that happens.

Here is a chart of what is "average" weight loss for the first year after gastric bypass:
As you can see, how much you lose also depends on where you are starting weight-wise.
Many people experience stalls, I have had 2 so far where I lost nothing for 3 weeks! It is scary but just keep going.
At one point, for no apparent reason, I actually gained 6 pounds in 2 days for some reason! I freaked out a little but honestly I have heard similar stories from so many people in the months following surgery that it did not bother me too much. A week later I had lost the 6 pounds gained plus another 2.
Try not to become obsessed with the scale or comparing yourself to others, just like with any other aspect of ourselves there will always be someone who ahead of us in some way. Just do your best to follow your plan and if you have concerns contact your centre for guidance.
As for PCOS symptoms, I have noticed a little more extra hair issues and more severe menstrual cramps since I did not take my birth control, spironolactone, and metformin for a month before surgery. Since I started back up on spiro and the birth control the cramps have been less. I have also had extreme emotional distress at times for no apparent reason, just start crying and cannot stop, usually only lasts a few hours but holy smokes it is awful, feel completely out of my mind with anxiety. I think it is the hormones being released into the body from the fat when you lose weight. Anyone else get this emotional low every so often since surgery?
Anyone else thinking of getting an IUD? My doctor recommended it but not sure how it works with us ladies with PCOS? Right now I am taking diane-35 as a birth control.

I was 9 weeks out before I had mine. A friend of mine had hers at 13 weeks out. It takes the body time to adjust to the weight loss which is sudden and rapid.

I never was able to take metformin I had steroid injections. I stalled after VSG for 3 weeks because I had lost so much the 1st month of surgery. Give it time and make sure you are doing what you are suppose to. I noticed if I don't take in the right about of fluid I don't lose and If my protein level is low I don't lose.

Regarding the fertility, My husband had a vasectomy because I didn't want to be pregnant again. I had 4 pregnancies with 5 babies and I only had 1 so I couldn't go through it again. I have a rare form of lupus and It keeps me from being able to carry. My twins I lost in different trimesters. 2nd pregnancy was my son who I barely carried. My 3rd pregnancy I lost at 21 weeks and my last pregnancy I was 25 weeks. So I can not answer about fertility however ALL of my pregnancies ONLY occurred when I was on Birth Control. that is the only way I was able to get pregnant lol.
