My surgeon also recommended RNY for me. If you get the sleeve you can still eat whatever you want just smaller amounts. Meaning if you make bad choices your blood sugars can still get out of whack.
Lisa (38) my goal is 160 lbs.... my dream is happy and healthy
Did the surgeon explain why the roux was the best for PCOS? I asked my surgeon which surgery would be best for me. She said it is my choice which surgery I want, but she did say that if I like sweets then the roux would be the best choice.
my surgeon said the RnY is the best for PCOS. but each doctor has a different opinion. Ask your surgeon why he wants you to get the sleeve.

I have been torn between two surgeries the sleeve and the roux. With having PCOS I feel that the roux would be better with the insulin resistance and to help decrease my chances for more issues later down the road. I told my doctor that for now I will plan to do the sleeve, but I am still considering the roux. I am wondering what helped you to make the choice for either surgery? I have a friend who also have PCOS, but she is doing the sleeve. Please help, thanks!!!!
I like this show. She tells it like it is and is so open. It takes major guts to do that. Very positive show.

Hi Meagen,
I am also new, this is my first post! I also have PCOS and am researching RNY surgery. I understand the frustration with infertility and weight. I am hopeful this site will provide a community of experts going through the same health issues.
All the best!

Wow, I can relate to your struggle...so since my initial post, I had to undergo all of the different tests ordered by my surgeon. I had to do a ph test, called manotemtry, which was like torture. They slide a catheter up your nose and down the back of your throat, down to just below your esophogeal sphincter. And then they do a series of tests making you swallow with it for a half hour, remove it and replace it with a thinner cath and send you home with it for 24 hrs to monitor eating, when you take medication, and when you lay down. They found that my esophogeal flapper just hangs open when I lay down and that food and acid come back up my throat. They said I had an event lasting for over an hour that night and were shocked it didn't wake me up. So now I am set to get a full bypass rather than a sleeve because that would've been an issue moving forward.
My 6 months are up and my final appointment with my dietician is tomorrow! And then they put together everything and will mail it off for preapproval with Aetna. I'm hoping to schedule surgery for sometime early in March. I have also completed 6 months of laser hair removal, and it's working! I will post again next week. How are you all faring?
Hello everyone! My name is Meagen, married with 2 fur-babies, from Indianapolis, IN. I'm 24 years old, am 5'3" (5'4" on a good day ), & weigh about 235 lbs. I'm currently looking into Gastric Bypass for quite a few reasons & have my consult scheduled for February 9th. I'm extremely excited, especially the more research I do. I have been diagnosed with PCOS, which makes it extremely hard to lose weight. In regards to having babies, I've been told by physicians that I won't be able to have a family on my own without medical help & my pregnancy would be extremely difficult. Not to mention that if weight loss is hard/impossible now, I pretty much have no hope after having a baby.
To put it into perspective, there was a period of 6 months where I was religiously watching what I ate & working out 6 days a week & in that time span, I only lost 2 pounds. TWO POUNDS. It was so very frustrating to me & after seeing that, I pretty much gave up. Now I've been told by my physician (putting this in my own words) that I'm pretty much 'too far gone'. This surgery is pretty much my only hope.
Have any of the ladies on here had PCOS & gotten this surgery done? What was your experience?
Does anyone on here have insurance through Premera Blue Cross? How did that go for you?
Also, silly question, how did your grocery bill change? I just figure this would be a fun perk, if anything at all.
Thanks so much for your help!
Hiya, I am right about 43 lbs lost post surgery 53 lost including the week of liquids prior to surgery. It can be hard, reading about others that lost that amount in the first 6 weeks!
