Pre Surgery PCOS hair loss???
Hi,
I haven't posted here before that I can remember. I'm Margo. I had a question....I have had PCOS since puberty (not diagnosed until a couple years ago) My hair has been thinning for years (except on my face..of course....) My question is..if anyone has had a similar experience and then had surgery...does that hair lost prevously ever come back? When I was younger I had so much hair you couldn't even see my scalp..now it is very obvious that my hair has thinned a great deal over the years. I see people looking directly at my scalp when they talk to me...it is getting difficult to deal with. I work in a public work enviornment...and talk to people all day long. Has anyone ever had their hair grow back?
Thanks!
Margo
I want to know the answer to this question also!!!! I've had PCOS since age 12 I guess. By age 24 my hair was VERY VERY VERY thin. I did have some grown back this past year when I got on thyroid meds, but......since surgery I'm in worse shape than I was before. I am thinking about a wig, yes it is that bad. I would love to know if it is going to grow back. I didn't have enough to loose! I swear, I tell people when they ask how much I've lost since surgery I ask, "Weight or hair?". I believe I've lost more of the latter.

I've been wondering too. I know for most WLS patients the hair loss is usually from not getting in enough protein and upping the protein and taking a hair and nail conditioning vitamin can help....and even still it is temporary.
So for us I'm sure any hair we lose post-op will grow back, but the stuff we lost before surgery I'm not sure about. I keep telling myself that losing weihht should help with most PCOS symptoms and that is one of them so it has to get better...but I could just be in denial. I hope someone has an answer.
I keep telling my fiance that enough of my hair falls out post-op I'm just going to shave my head. As it is my hair on top is thinning so bad I may have to resort to a comb over soon. LOL
My PCOS hair loss is caused by elevated Testosterone (Androgens) levels. Have you had yours checked? I wasn't diagnosed until after my gastric bypass, I began gaining weight because of the elevated Testosterone levels. I now see a great Endocrinologist and she treats my PCOS with Metformin and Spironolactone. BUT I still have occasional cycles of hair loss, but it has improved so much since I started taking the Meds, and I've been able to lose weight and regulate my cycles.
