PCOS and WLS
I am new to this board. I have had PCOS since I've had a cycle. My cycle first came when I was about 8 years of agae and not again until I was 10 then again at 11. Since the age of 11, I have been taking all types of medications to try and regulate my cycle to no avail.
So here I am in my mid-20's, and after cycles and cycles of TTC, to now having WLS. I tried several cycles of clomid (about 5 years ago), then clomid, with the injections (about 1.5 years after that), to clomid, injections and IUI's (for the past 3 years), and nothing. So here I am at my ends wit, and all prayers to GOD that this works out for me.
I know there is hope because my sister who was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago, tried to conceive for 3 years along with me when I was using clomid, injections and IUI's had WLS (down 50+ pounds), is now 5 months post-op (yes I know, too soon),and she is now 6 weeks pregnant.
Hi there! Yes...there is hope with WLS and PCOS. Your story sounds a lot like mine. DH and I went through 8+ years of failed fertility treatments from Clomid to injectables with IUI. Finally for my health (I had diabetes, hypertension & sleep apnea...not to mention horrible PCOS) I had surgery. All my problems went away. My diabetes is gone, same for the sleep apnea and hypertension. Also, for my PCOS, I never had cycles before surgery unless I was on the pill. Well...at 12 months post op I went off the bcpatch Ortho-Evra and had 3 cycles each lasting 36 days and I was even ovulating!! After the 3 cycles we decided to ttc and to our suprise got pregnant right away! We're now expecting our first bundle of joy on/around 8/6/06. Good luck, the wait after surgery is well worth it to have a healthy baby!!!

HI,
May God Bless you and bring you as many babies as your heart desires. I am a bit older thatn you, in my mid 30's. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1993.
Here's my story ... My husband and I were married in 1990 and did not get pregnant. I was always irregular and went to get things checked out. They diagnosed me with PCOS. 1996 - full fertility, clomid, Humegon, another injection I cannot remember the name of, trips to the dr every other day for 10 days out of the month, IUI's. Finally got pregnant and miscarried. Could not take anymore heartbreak. Stopped all fertility treatments. We never used bc but never got pregnant either.
come to 2003 ... I was very fortunate in 2003-2004 I had a bunch of stuff going right, God, got my thyroid straight, was on glucophage, lost a bunch of weight and got preggo. I have a beautiful 16 month old daugter.
Everyone says that the weight loss was a huge contributor to me getting pregnant. I think it was God - but isn't everything from him.
Of couse, now I am heavier than when I got pregnant with her. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and am looking forward to whatever blessing God will provide as a result of the surgery.
God Bless,
Jen
I always get so excited to hear other people talk about God doing great things for them! I was diagnosed with PCOS in 99 and been on different types of birth control. I got married July 2004 and we havent used BC. I had gastric bypass last March and I stopped using the patch this past November because of all of the news stories about the side effects. I have been off of bc for 4 months and no period. I went to the OBGYN and she gave me some progesterone to start my period and then chlomid to get me to ovulate. I told God that if He wanted me to get pregnant, then so be it. But if He didnt want me to get pregnant, just let me know so I dont have to go through all the pain of trying if it's not meant to be, ya know? I have two beautiful children (step, soon to be adopted) and I feel guilty about wanting a baby.
Christina,
Don't feel guilty, babies are wonderful. If I could get pregnant tomorrow I would.
God will give what he knows is best for us. When I got pregnant in 1996 and miscarried, I was devastated (sp?) and cried out to God WHY WHY WHY. Well about 2 months or so later my mother committed suicide, she left three children; me 25, my sister 15 and brother 14. Their dad is a creep, and my mom had spelled out in her will that I become guardian of the kids. So, at the ripe old age of 25 I had two teenagers. I laugh now and say I am doing it backwards teenage years - then baby years. This summer my sister graduated from college - I had one in college and one in diapers.
When I got pregnant I had lost about 60 pounds and was around 240 with my weight. How much have you lost and what is your current weight? 4 months isn't that long to be without a period ... I went from 8/2000 to 10/2003 with no period. Then I lost that weight, had one in October, November and December and conceived in January. My husband and I were married 14 years and one month when Grace was born.
Take care, keep praying and hang in there.
God Bless,
Jen
Hello,
I just wanted to let you all know that I love to hear these stories of God's miracles in your life. Sometimes it amazes me that we can want something so much, pray for it so hard, and think we know what's best for ourselves. Then, God will surprise us by not giving us things on our time and not in our way, but in his time and in his way. Here's my "baby" story, and if you'd like to read it, please do!

Hi. I am new to the board (I just joined). I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on 3/20/06. I just wanted to let you know that right now I am 38 y.o. However, I was diagnosed w/ PCOS when I was 15. I got married in 1991 at the age of 24. I went on Slim-Fast diet as well as very strict exercise program just prior to the wedding. I lost 70lbs. We got married in 12/91 & I got pregnant in 5/92. I gave birth to a beautiful son on 1/19/93. My point to all this is, I believe I became pregnant fairly easily mainly because of my weight loss, because, after my son was born, I gained back all 70lbs. plus more & never lost more than 10-20lbs. at a time (which I always gain back plus more) in the last 13 years. Also, since that time, I've never been on any birth control & I never became pregnant & my periods became irregular again. I just hope this gives some of you ladies the hope that through weight loss, I believe a woman with PCOS could get pregnant.
Also, just wanted to ask, of those of you who have had WLS, how successful was it considering the factors of the PCOS? And just one sidenote. I was just diagnosed w/ diabetes this past summer. I was first put on Actos then Glucophage was added late last year. Since that time, I have had a fairly regular period approx. every 32-35 days.
Good luck & God bless to all of you trying to get pregnant.
