WLS / PCOS and birth control

Before having surgery, etc, I was really infertile due to pcos and weight.. At 19 I was on birth control, but because of the PCOS it really screwed my hormones, etc and I almost had a stroke.. Anyway, it took a lot for me to have my daughter, and I am so grateful.. but eventually we want another child, and I know we have to wait the 18 months before even trying.. So lies the problem.. I am afraid to take the pill again, yet I am afraid not too.. I dont want to have problems with it, but I dont want to get pg yet.. I am only 2 months out from surgery, so I know I have a long road of weight loss.. My question is, what kind of birth control are you on, and are you or have you had any problems with it.. I heard that Yasmin is good for PCOSers but am clueless.

I guess the pill can be rendered somewhat ineffective after wls because of the fact that we don't absorb it all. I have heard a lot of women go on the patch, but I guess you have to be under 200 lbs for it to be effective. Now that doesn't mean it's not effective for those over 200 lbs, but I think that is the safety zone they want to give it. Perhaps the patch and then something else like a foam or strip. Dina

I started on Seasonale (oral birth control pill) at almost 2 weeks out from surgery. Like you before surgery I was very infertile...couldn't get pregnant if my life depended on it. I didn't want to take any chances either. Well...Seasonale is a 12 weeks of pills type and 8 weeks into it I started bleeding. So at this point since I was just under 200lbs my OB/GYN decided to put me on the Ortho-Evra patch. I've just started my 3rd month on it and I'm loving it! I no longer have worried that I'm not absorbing it. Good luck! Kristy 248/158.5/140
