Dose the PCOS ease up after surgery? I have the skin tags, face hair, thinning hair on head, dark skin on my neck, under arms, knees (my mom to a bri-lo pad to me when I was about 13 she thought I was just dirty) , elbows, under my breast and lets just say every where else. I have been married for 6 years and no kids. Will sugary help me with having kids? I am so glad I found this message board.

I also have PCOS and my doctor told me that roughly 90% of the symptons will go away or be controlled with the weight loss. He also told me that by losing weight (as long as PCOS is the only infertility problem) with this surgery that you SHOULD become fertile again because the hormones SHOULD work themselves out and you SHOULD start to produce and release eggs again. (I only put SHOULD like this because this is how he stated it...meaning that of course everyone is different...but he has never had anyone that still had the symptons after losing the weight) He actually told me this morning that most of the woman don't believe him and end up pregnant only a couple months out of surgery (which is NOT good until your poush is fully healed and your body has gone through all the steps). That's what I've been told and I wish you all the luck! I truely understand everything you are going through and hope for the best for both of us!! Dana

Deb, I sympathize with you on those symptoms! I used to soak a rag in bleach and drape it over the back of my neck when i was younger. i was so ashamed to wear my hair up cuz of my "dirty" neck! I do however, know the symptoms better themselves after weight loss... I was at 300# at 18 and then my 1st yr of college, i somehow (w/out trying or realizing) lost about 85# was wearing a 16 before I knew it, but as soon as i realized it, the weight stableized, however, my dark knees, ankles, neck, elbows, ect cleared up ... as well did my acne ~ for the first time in my life i was actually worrying over 1 pimple (yeah... one!). the facial hair was not as noticable and my oily face had become dry! about 4 years later i got pregnant , while on the pill taking it correctly! that baby was not ment to be, however, a mere 6 months later, it happened again! (yes still while on the pill) my daughter was born healthy and happy! when i left the hospital I had 20# to loose to get back to my original pre baby weight. at my six week check up, i had gained an additional 30! at that point i was 270 and not happy with myself... anothor 3 months later i was back at the 300 mark and have been unable to do anything about. That is why I am now here going after wls! So, long story short, yes, your symptoms most likely will deminish after the weight loss... if not completely, at least manageably! Good Luck Kiddo! ~Lori

I am almost 3 years out and for me the symptoms are the same except for the size of the cyst are worse. That is just me I am not sure about others. I know I need surgery but have no insurance so I am playing the waiting game. Good Luck

After 9 years of "trying" including 3 years of infertility treatments for PCOS, we gave up and were blessed to adopt a little girl in 2001. I had my WLS 1/7/04. Open DS. I was 358 lbs. in 2/03 when I started Weigh****chers AGAIN. I lost 59 lbs. by July, and my periods actually started on their own and were regular. Since my surgery it has been exactly regular except for one month. I have not been "regular" since the early 1980's! I am aiming to reach my goal weight in October, and am now only 56 lbs. away. I have the ClearPlan Easy Ovulation Predictor Monitor that I used during all those years of infertility treatments. Since it takes about 6 cycles for the monitor to get back in sync with you after a long time of not using it, I started using it when I figured I was 6 months from Oct. I used it for 3 cycles so far and the first one, nothing (just like all the years before), then cycles 2 and 3 both showed me as ovulating! I never had seen it display that before! So I am very hopeful! Then main reason I had the WLS was to be a better mom for my little girl, but a close second was the desire to get pregnant. My infertility Dr. said that the PCOS should resolve itself if I lost a significant amount of weight. There is hope! Give it your best shot and do all you can do and the Lord will make up the difference!

Hi! I went undiagnosed with PCOS for roughly 18 years. When I was officially diagnosed with PCOS, I had 6 of the 7 symptoms. (The only one I haven't had was the actual ovarian cycsts.) I had my surgery just over a year ago. 3 months after my surgery, I had my first period that wasn't drug induced, in two years. 3 months later I had my next period, and since I have had one monthly, and exactly on schedule. (What a change that has been!) Most of the other symptoms are gone, but my facial hair is still here, but it is lighter. But, maybe now, I can have children. Who knows? ~Cyndi
