I just found this board. I have a general question and any help would be appreciated. I am pre-op dianosed with PCOS recently. I've never had a regualr cycle. I had to go to a dietician. She put me on a diet. It seems since I've changed my eating habits and started exercising my cycle never ends. I would be on for a week then off for a week and so on the whole month. Has anyone esle had this happen? Is it normal? I have a call into my doctor but haven't got a call yet. Loosing all this blood is making very very tired plus I'm anemic(I know thats not spelled right..LOL)

I've had that prob and still do from time to time. It wasn't diet induced for me though. I would not have periods for many months then when it came I would spot almost every day for a couple months then it would het heavier and heavier and heavier. They usually put me on medroyprogesterone or some other hormone replacement to even it out sometimes it didn't work and I would bleed so heavily I have to have 2 overnights pads on and change them every 1/2 hour and still bleed all over the place (I know not a pretty picture****il it got serious enough to have an Emergency D&C to stop the bleeding. But that was with a doctor who didn't take my bleeding prob seriously and hadn't diagnosed me with PCOS (even though ALL the symptoms where right there in his face. Not everyone gets that bad. You may just need to talk to your doctor about meds to help you even out your menses if it should go on for too long. But irregular, heavy, spotty periods are a common symptom of PCOS diet or no diet.

Unfortunatly, it seems to be a problem of PCOS. Ive been there, done that. Bleeding for like 6 weeks straight, stopping for 3 days then going on for 4 more weeks. Its no fun. My docs told me that if Im bleeding more than 1 heavy duty pad per hour to contact them, and if much more than that to go to the er. Good luck, and hang in there. -Donna

I went through the same thing. Any exercise made me bleed really bad. I told the Dr this several times and he said not to worry. FINALLY after bleeding for 9 mos straight he did an exploritory of my uterus and found it was so tire and worn out that it tore every time I strained. Hysterectomy followed shortly after. My advise is, find someone who has extensive experience w/ PCOS and not just with getting you pregnant but actually treating the condition. Where are you from, I'll help you look for a new Dr! I had this problem ever since I had my son in June 2001. I went for 3 solid months one time and my GYN finally had to put me on the strongest progesterone they make. It has been like that for 3 years, except up to the point of surgery. I got my period 1 week after surgery and it stopped after 5 days. I got another period 4 weeks later and I'll be doggoned if it didn't stop after 5 days also! I was shocked because it was a real heavy nasty period to start. I was changing every hour and still leaking through (sorry if TMI!). Anyway, I am thinking that this surgery has helped even that problem....at least I hope so. I was clotting and bleeding so heavily before that it was difficult to do anything without being near a bathroom. Dina

I have been like that since I was 10 (Yes, I was one of the few that got their first period when they were 8! Not fun for an elementary school girl). No doctor could ever tell me why (except your too overweight****il I finally took an article about PCOS to my doctor last year. Finally after a few more months of begging she tested me and got me started on Metaformin. I can't remember a time when I felt better. My periods are actually coming every 28 days and only sticking around for 3 or 4 days now and they are bearable! It's like a miracle that I never in the world thought I would see. You are better than I, waiting for the doctor to call me back. When I would lose that much blood I would go to the office or ER. It always scared me so bad. Plus then they have to do something right away. Well, that's my story and I hope it atleast makes you feel better because you aren't the only one. I really feel for you. I know what hell it is. Dana
