Success Story anyone?
I have been scrolling through the pages of this forum searching for something positive.
I have pcos, though I'm not sure if there are varying levels of severity-if there is I'm only symptomatic in 2 areas- obesity and irregular menstruation (combined of course with the actual cysts)
anyway, I'm scheduled for surgery on January 7 and am now starting to get cold feet.
I've been searching for a success story to no avail. All I see is how it doesn't work and it's really discouraging. In starting to wonder if it's worth it?
I'm 5'8 and 269 pounds is there anyone out there with a success story?
I have PCOS and had surgery in May.
My cycles are completely regular now (27-28 days) as opposed to 30-32 days. They are lighter with less cramping.
The hair on my chin and neck is much reduced and I hope it eventually goes away completely.
I never had cysts on my ovaries so can't comment on that.
I was on metformin prior to surgery and stopped taking it right after. I also had insulin resistance and by my 6 week appointment it was gone completely.
Now I have read that people are worried about actually losing weight with surgery because PCOS means you are less successful. I am 7 months post op and have lost 101 pounds or 37% of my total weight or 68% of my excess body weight.
Hope this helps.

Here's a success story for you:
I had severe PCOS and could not ovulate for anything. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for two years after we got married, then saw a fertility specialist for another five years. Nothing.
Six months after my surgery (and with my surgeon's okay), we started trying again. First month, Positive Pregnancy Test! Now, we have the most perfect 5.5 month old little girl. We wouldn't have had her if I hadn't had my surgery. I would do it again in a minute.
I even joined this forum just so that I could reply to your request for a success story!
My success was so muchthat I was asked to be interviewed on national television! ( I declined)
My PCOS allowed me to ovulatemaybe twice a year, excess facial hair, diffiiculty losing weight, the works. After I married, the surprise, occassional ovulatory cycle surprised us with the pregnancy of our first child! but then secondary infertility reared its ugly head. No ovulation for three years, RE consults, clomid without success, then shots brought a quadruplet pregnancy ( not our desired outcome!). only two survived their extreme prematurity, but thats a story for a different website!
then I had RNY gastric bypass, lost 137 lbs, started OVULATING on my own, and here I am 13 years later, and went on to have FIVE MORE HEALTHY PREGNANCIES, my periods are somewhat regular, kept weight off ( of course some up and down through those pregnancies, but am back down to mylowest weight)
.... so depending on what you call success, I would say my story is one! I'm thrilled with the secondary benefits ofsurgery and its help withmyPFOS symptoms. Best if luck to you!
