I have PCOS and have been banded for 2 months today!  I'm 40 pounds down and feeling great!  I am still on Metfromim and spironolactone and according to my doctor - I probably will stay on those for a long time.  Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer.  I have Roseacea (a form of acne), hirutism, big belly, the whole enchillada!

Take care and be well!

I have been banded almost a year and I have PCOS as well.  I stopped taking metformin 1 month before surgery and I haven't started again after.  I started getting my TOM the month of surgery and have had it regularly ever since.  A lot of my PCOS symptoms have dramatically improved.  I had melasma on my face, neck, armpits and abdomen.  That has completely gone away, except for a small amount on my face.  My acne has completely cleared up and there has been a huge improvement on the hairy chin/face situation.  Most of my weight is in my belly, but it has improved tremendously as well.

At my latest GYN appointment, the doctor said that I was fertile.  That's a word I never thought I would hear.  I don't intend on trying to get preg anytime soon, since I'm single, but it was nice to hear anyway.

Good luck on your journey.
Christina

I got my band almost 8 months ago, down about 57lbs. I have (had?) sever PCOS. Metformin has never worked for me, BCP has been a lifesaver, and the almost daily spotting has all but stopped. My hair is still thin and thinning (most likely due to anemia, and thyroid), but the hirsutism is so dramatically improved I never would have believed weight loss could have helped. I don't have to shave daily (I do but because I am still so self conscious about it). I have been told fertility shouldn't be any more of an issue for me than anyone else, but we aren't at the point of being ready to try either.

Hello I am new to these boards and am so glad to have found them. I  have PCOS and  am SO TIRED of being overweight.  The metformin does nothing for me besides upset my stomach.  I am going to start looking into the lap band surgery. I am also tired of trying to lose weight, lose some then I balloon back up out of nowhere It's old.    I am on Yasmin and find it is easier to lose weight when i am not on it.   What is spirnolactone?   I have also noticed lately my hair is thinning a bit and that scares me.

hey, spirnolactone is a diuretic but it works lowering testosterone and hair loss, extra hair, acne... I have some but haven't started it. I hate pills :-(

I got my band back in february and i'm down 24 lbs slowly, but atleast it's coming off ya know. i also need a fill. well keep in touch. you can also email me at [email protected] if you ever want to talk.
good luck!

Hi, I'm new here. Just signed up today.

I have had pcos since I was 15. They diagnosed me because of irregular periods. I was on Yasmin for 5 years prior to becoming pregnant with my first. I got pregnant 3 months after stopping.

I went back on Yasmin for 6 months after my son was born, and stopped due to increasing migraines. Since 6 months pp (Jan of '10) I've had migraines, a chronic skin condition as well as infertility.

I'm on metformin 500mg 2x's a day, and it's doing NOTHING.

I've only been able to lose about 10 pounds when activley dieting/exercising.

Do you ladies think that having PCOS is related to not being able to lose very much weight? Also, do you think that Lap Band is a good choice because of it?

I've googled a lot, but I like to hear first hand and personal people's experiences.

I was recently banded & have severe pcos since I was 13 years old   I have all the symptoms you mentioned above plus some.  I do take metformin I can not take any fluid pill because I only have one kidney.  I do not get a period at all unless I take provera to bring it on.  I have been on birth control to try to regulate me....nothing.   I am losing slowly and do eat mostly protein  I have yet to have my first fill so hopefully after my first fill I will lose better and not stay so hungry.

Good luck with your weight loss  wishing you all the best
