Hi I'm new the this site.  I'm schedule to have my VSG surgery on 4/26/11.  I was wondering if anyone who has/had PCOS before they got the VSG or any surgery, at around what weight loss month or pounds did you begin getting your regular menstrual cycle back.  And are/were they normal cycles?

I am 8 years post op and mine are still not normal on their own. I had mirena inserted 2 years ago and it has helped tremendously!
Everyone is different though so your body may respond differently to the surgery.
Best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

I had my VSG two and a half weeks ago, 28lbs down and just started my first cycle in a year. We'll see in a few months how regular or normal it is!

Hi, I'm also new to this site :)
I had my VSG on 2/9/11. During my pre-opt I started getting my period.  In fact I even got it twice in Jan, and then again a wk before surgery.  I was so happy I didnt get it at the same time!  I dont get it enough to be able to say like clock work but I did get it again this wk. So hopefully this is a start of a good trend for me. Can't really say what is normal at this point, but for the most part they are. good luck with your surgery!

Dang!  That's a lot in a few short weeks.  How was your surgery?  Are you recooping alright?  I have a count down calendar up at my desk.  I'm happy for the moment but I know I'm going to get either nervous or scared or probably both knowing me.

I had it on a Wed morn and was home by Thur night.  It was tough the first couple of days as expected but over all it went well.  I couldnt drink much the first few days, so I mostly slept lol. By Sun I was up and out visiting family. By Mon I stopped taking the pain killers and the following Thur I went for my follow up and everyone was shocked at how well I looked!  Just follow your medical teams instructions & stock up on supplies.

Supplies...what supplies.  My medical team hasn't told me anything yet.  I have my preop appt the day before sugery.  I was wondering shat should I get.  Did you come home with some type of drain from your incesions?

Supplies for me were: Gas x (but I didnt use it), Liquid Tylenol (just in case), Liquid Protein (Isopure), Powerade Zero (awesome!), Vitamins (Chewables) & broth.
As far as the incesions, while I was there my Belly kept leaking and they would have to change my bandages so when I left they gave some gauze, tape & Tegaderm. No drain I only had 2 incesion's one thru my belly button and and a very tiny one on the very top (which is a very small mark). Once I went home I only changed the bandage to keep it clean, no more leaks.

Thanks to all for responding.  I was just wondering what to expect b/c if I want a period I have to take prevera to have one.  I am hoping that I won't have to take the medicine any more once I have my surgery and Aunt Flow start coming on the regular.
