I was wondering the same thing. I'm on 2000mg per day too (4 horse pills a day) and i'm so eager to stop taking them. i'm hoping my endo will let me stop. i WAS pre diabetic but the metformin got me to good levels. he'll probably have me continue to take them but i'm hoping maybe a smaller dose? otherwise that would suck.
I think the best thing to do is to evaluate on an individual level - you need to go to your own doctor and have them track your levels post WLS and let them determine what you need. Everyone responds to WLS differently and your body still goes through changes as you getting further out post WLS.
I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003 and was taking 2000mg/day of metformin - I HATED IT. It made me sooooo tired and useless feeling while my body was getting used to it. But once it did, the main thing I noticed was that I wasn't constantly craving sweet/sugary foods.
I had RNY just over 3 years ago now - 11/2007. I'm actually looking up my old PCOS doctor to setup an appointment because in the past year, my PCOS symptoms are getting out of control. My acne is TERRIBLE - my face is drenched in oil and I'm breaking out all the time. The worst part has to be the cravings. I crave sweets constantly and it's worse now because not only is it making me gain weight back but I DUMP! I'm beginning to feel desperate - WLS is not a cure-all for PCOS. Absolutely it helped, yes. I lost 80 pounds, but again - I'm gaining again and feel like I did pre-WLS.
Doctor's are the only ones who can really give you the medical advice you need....
