Dr. thinks I might have....
irregular/missing periods
cysts on ovaries
abdominal weight
easy weight gain
hard to lose weight
insulin resistance (pre-diabetes)
infertility
male pattern hair loss
dark patches of skin
skin tags
increased testosterone levels
Please keep in mind that as PCOS is a syndrome, you do not have to have ALL symptoms to have it. Weight loss does seem to help out with many of the symptoms, but there is no cure.
Hi Anne. I gotta say this really makes me angry for you!!!!
The Dr should not THINK you have PCOS, They should KNOW! If the doc suspects that you have PCOS then he/she should be taking the appropriate tests to find out. Checking your testosterone, Lipid panel, and an ultrasound on your ovaries, there are so many tests. Get these tests done my dear, just so you know. Your weight loss will help your symptoms immensly, as will lower carb/sugar healthy choice diet.
Welcome!

I forgot to say that my dr. has been sending me for some tests. I went for an ultrasound of my ovaries just last week but i didn't get the results yet (8 to 10 days before my dr. gets them from hospital) and he will send me for blood tests on my next appointment. So, don't worry, he's a good dr. and he's checking into it. Thanks for your concern....

Hi Anne
I am so Glad to hear this. I am sorry for the angry tone of my first post. It honestly comes from my own experiences. I hope Dr's ARE getting more observant, I had the classic pcos body shape, and symptoms and still didn't get diagnosed until my early 30's. I try to keep my anger focused but occassionally it does overcome me.
PCOS makes it hard to lose weeight. Your bady is VERY efficent at storing calories it adjusts quite easily to have less food to work with. The restriction only of the VSG probably won't be enough, you might look into a surgery with serious malaborption like the DS.
Just a thought,
Catnip
My dr. suggested i get vsg because there is no malabsorption because i'm anemic already and it could get worse with a surgery like the DS and that with him not knowing that I might have PCOS back then, in dec. 08.
Also, I'm not even sure I have PCOS yet, i'm just beginning my testing (ultrasound 3 weeks ago) and have to get my test results in May ( my dr. wants to see me) . I will know pretty soon and will keep you all updated...
Thanks
Anne
