Hi Everyone,

I will be having WLS on next Tuesday 01/19.  My surgeon told me to stop taking the Metformin at least 5 days prior to the surgery.  Of course I would obsess over this after Dr. hours, but here goes:

You know how when you start taking Metformin you kinda "ramp" up the dosage over a few days/weeks............well, do you have to do that when you stop taking it, even temporarily for surgery??

Latasha-
My doctor just told me to stop taking it and I am 2 weeks post op and he hasn't had me restart taking it. Good luck on your surgery. Which one are you having?

Hey Jenn.

My surgeon said to stop taking it 5 days before the surgery.  Today the anest----ologist (LOL)  said to stop taking 24 hrs before the surgery.

My Gyn said she wants me to continue taking it after the surgery.

I'm getting the band.

I was advised to stop taking it about a week before surgery. I was on my pre-surg liquid diet, so that had alot to do with it. When you are only taking in liquid protein, your blood sugar will drop. You shouldn't need it at all.

Take care, Good Luck!!
