New to this forum!!
I was just diagnosed with PCOS in December I haven't start any type of medication for it yet. I will see my doctor again the end of January which by the time I will see her I will already have my surgery. Does PCOS get better with the surgery? I really need to do more research about PCOS in general so if anyone has any good information or websites I would greatly appreciate it!!
For me, yes my PCOS symptoms have improved. As the weight drops off I find my skin tags are starting to fade, the hair growth is slowing and the dark patches are lightening up. Even my buffalo hump is going away.
I started my period the day before I left the hospital. This was the first time in my life I've had a period on my own. I can FEEL when I'm ovulating - which is fantastic! I know a lot of women hate how strong the cramps can be and how heavy the flow can be after WLS (because of hormone surges from the weight loss) but I secretly love it: my body is working like it was meant to work with no medication!
I had the DS specifically because of my PCOS. I was diagnosed at 13 (I'm 38 now) and was on the pill until I was 33 - I had issues that forced me to go off of it. I've spent my whole life trying to manage my PCOS and now - this surgery fixed my insulin levels, upped my metabolism, and allowed my body to function normally and have periods every month since surgery. It's fantastic!
There are a couple of studies out there showing that PCOS is greatly improved with WLS. I asked my particular surgeon what the turn around looked like for PCOS women and his exact words were 'miraculous'.
And it has been!

Yes!
I have seen many of my symptoms decrease. Very soon after surgery, my dark patches of skin started fading and my facial hair became tamer. My periods started coming on their own, and after years of thinking I was probably not going to be able to get pregnant, I found myself expecting a baby 1 year post-op.
Good luck!
