Doctor says I'm cured after 116lbs lost with band

I went to the doctor today and had my levels checked. At 304.5lbs, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). In my doctor's opinion, it was a huge contributor to why I had such a hard time keeping the weight off.

Well, the levels are VERY normal now. Though there is some controversy as to whether someone can be cured of PCOS or not.... my doctor told me I am... especially if I keep up with the weight loss.

It's a great feeling to know that I am rid of this. It's nice to know my levels are normal and will give me an opportunity (some day a long time from now, lol) to have a healthy pregnancy.

2019: 11 years out and maintaining a loss of 150lbs.

Hey there!

I was diagnosed PCOS many years ago.  I actually had a hysterectomy in February of this year, doctor took my cervix, uterus and one tube - left me with one tube and both ovaries (which apparently are just covered)

Its positive to read your that your doctor is telling you are "cured" of PCOS - that is awesome.  I hope for the cure or at least relief of all these symptoms when I have my WLS and am on the bench.

......and best of luck down the road in the future to have a healthy pregnancy and beautiful baby Elena!

I am due to have a hyster. in a few weeks also because of pcos. I had my wls in Jan and my symptoms just got worse.  But Dr. said my hormones would be a little crazy because of my body losing so fast. I do believe it has slowed down my wl progress because I'm only about a few months from my anniversary and I've only lost about 50 pounds.  I know 50 pounds is 50 pounds but compared to others its really nothing. Well really what I want to know is if you had any insulin resistance and if so is it under control since your hysterectomy. I would appreciate any type of advice that you could give me regarding the hysterectomy. Don't know really what to expect after surgery, kind of worried that I'll regret it because I'm going to be worse off. My doctor is taking everything except one of my ovaries. Its the healthy one but I hear after a few years the ovaries tend to stop functioning anyways. I guess he's going to leave it so I don't go into early menopause? Well like I said I would really appreciate any information you could give me regarding your experience with the hysterectomy. Thanks

That is wonderful Elena! My symptoms also went away but my dr said that I could never really be "cured" of PCOS. I will say this, though....I have no more symptoms and I have a regular period (like clockwork!) for the first time in my life. I really wanted to practice NFP (natural family planning) and now I can do this with no problems.

First of all - kudos to you for 116 lbs lost. That is amazing news. I too have PCOS and most of the symptoms are taken care of, except for the weight and no kids.

I am hoping to beat it as well with the surgery. Thanks for being an inspiration!
