Okay... I have been told I have a hormonal imbalance by my doctors, and this is because I am overweight ... I have been told that my periods will probably never be regular until I am a normal weight .. They didn't actually say I have PCOS... Right now I am wondering has anyone else had a problem with bleeding for about 10 to 14 days a month... I am so frustrated .. I feel downright evil when i am PMS'sing .. I have been put on iron pills because my iron is so low .. because my cycle either comes on and stays long or it comes on way too heavy ... Doctors won't give me birth control pills to regulate cycle because I am over 400 pounds and have high blood pressure... So I am taking the iron pills .. but still weak and cold all the time.. Drs say there is nothing I can do .. but take the iron pills.. But I am experiencing severe mood swings.. just really irritable and cranky 1 week before ..(the flood) ... Any suggestions.. Anyone else ? Is this a sign of PCOS???
It's hard to say. It could go either way, though. Doctors don't tend to do much it seems when it comes to PCOS. When I was ten I started my periods, but they stopped shortly afterwards. I'm almost 20 now and nothing has changed, plus I now have almost every symptom of PCOS out there. Despite this, doctors still refused to give it a name, suggesting I just needed to lose weight.
For this, I find that they really do not help much in the situation and you just have to start doing things on your own to figure things out.
Ultimately, they are right in some sense. Once our bodies get to a simpler weight, our hormones will be able to regulate a bit more than what they are now. This is for PCOS patients, as well as the regular individual. However, for doctors to just tell us to jump on an exercise machine and throw some hormones at us, is certainly the wrong way to go about things. The lack of birth control thing might be good, honestly. I find that the solution many times is just to throw someone on birth control and tell them to fix their body. However, birth control can increase acne, weight gain and increase in fertility etc.. which are symptoms of PCOS... in turn, just creating a circular aspect of things. Not to mention, just creating a simple solution without taking care of the situation as a whole, clearly will be something to regret at later times.
While it truly is hard to diagnose PCOS, it may be a good idea to go ahead and start treating yourself as if you do have PCOS. I'm not suggesting jumping on hormones, by any means. However, most of the strict diets and lifestyles that PCOS patients go on would be beneficial for anyone, considering the generic American diet is literally killing our bodies.
So, sorry I'm rambling, but my suggestion is to go ahead and, despite what the doctors may or may not say, start treating your body through a holistic approach. Many women are reversing their PCOS symptoms, simply by changing up their lifestyles and using natural forms of medication.
Aside from that, it isn't just PCOS being cured by natural remedies... Diabetes, cancers, IBS and other forms of diseases are all being cured through holistic approaches.
I decided earlier this summer to take this approach for my PCOS and I haven't been happier. So, whether or not you do have PCOS, it is a wonderful step to take. If you would like to know a little bit more about what research I have been doing, feel free to send a message my way. I'd be happy to share. :)

I was the opposite of you I had no period for about 5-6 months now which made me totally happy. But had all the awful symptoms of pcos. The facial hair, cysts, pelvic pain the worst!! I basically self diagnosed myself because my OBGYN was worthless! Told him about my symptoms prescribed me birthcontrol, high blood pressure meds and off he went. He didn't care basically is the impression he gave me. Well I took matters into my own hands because I have been having abnormal paps and had a leep procedure done and he kept wanting me to come back every 3 months for pap. Cancer runs in my family and now I have mild dysplasia which can turn into cancer and he just wants me to come back every 3 months. How stupid does he honestly think I am! Well I kept pushing and pushing and he still wouldn't budge so I went to another OBGYN and now I will be having a hysterectomy in Dec. I know it maybe a very drastic measure but feel this is the best thing for me. It will aliviate some of the more painful issues that I've been dealing with and also it will prevent others. I know it won't cure all pcos symptoms but its sure going to be nice to not have all of them!
GOD DOES NOT GIVE YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN HANDLE.
