WLS/Hysterectomy

I posted this on the lightweight board and figuered I'd post it here for those who don't go to that board. Which everyone probably does but either way I will post my venting session again. Anyway, for those who don't know anything of what's been going on with me. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I had RNY back in Jan and have been struggling with a lot of health issues since then. I have the facial & back hair, I have acne, irregular periods, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, diabetes, mild dysplasyia, etc, etc, etc. You name it I have it, it seems like. Anyways I had been pushing my GYN for a hysterectomy and always said no even after the mild dysplaysia. Well I've been blessed and have discussed my issues with my PCP and she has agreed to refer me to a GYN that would preform the procedure. I just feel this is my best option even If I have to take hormones after wards. I will just add it to my daily vitamin regimen anyways. I don't know if any of you have had WLS and then a hysterectomy but I 've heard that it will complicate the weightloss? I hear so many different stories that I don't know what to believe. I am confident that I am making the right choice with the hysterectomy no doubt about that. I am just a little concerned since I am only 7 months shy of my WLS that it would affect me reaching my goal. I am very happy where am I am but would feel very accomplished if I could actually reach that goal and see myself there for a while. I haven't seen myself thin in a very, very long time. I would love to see that Liz once again even if its for a short while. So any of you had a hysterectomy after WLS and if so how did it affect your weight loss and body after wards?

I'm pre-op, and still trying to decide which wls to have, however, I felt that I might be able to contribute my own experience here.

I had an endnometrial ablation for heavy dysfunctional uterine bleeding a few years ago -   It was the best thing I ever did for myself, and I'm glad I was spared having to go the next step and having a hysterectomy.

I think you should see a endocrinologist before making the decision to take out the girl parts and talk to the doctor  about Metformin - it can really change your hormone levels and improve your  PCOS symptoms.  I take 850 mg 3x per day.

Good Luck.

I had my surgery in Jan and since then it just seems like my symptoms have come out to the light more. I won't say they got worse because I've always had them just never really focused on it as much as now. I don't have any regrets having the surgery because I know my hormones are crazy right now and its gonna take some time for them to get in control again. I am currently taking metformin but mine is 500mg 2x per day. My IR is still the same, my PCP just changed my bp meds to spiro and my GYN just changed my BC to Yaz. So I'm trying different things but nothing seems to be helping. But I really appreciate your help.  At this point after everything I've been dealing with and going through I just really feel hysterectomy is the way to go. I'm just worried since I've had such a slow weightloss due to the IR and all my other issues. I'm worried that the hysterectomy will slow it down even more. But at this point where I'm at its like I'm torn in the middle because I'm happy with my body but would like to continue to lose weight. But then I really don't want to deal with the issues that I've been dealing with anymore and feel like I'm at the point where I don't care if I lose anymore weight as long as I have the hysterectomy even if it makes it harder to lose weight. Well I'll just have to wait and see what God has planned for me.

Hi Liz... I just had my Hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. I feel your pain and I have to say that I think it is different for everyone. I had a mom that stuffed me with potatoes and fried foods for 3 weeks and as a result I have seen a weight gain. Most the women I know have lost weight afterwards but those women have not had WLS surgery either.

Try posting hystersisters.com there may be someone there that can answer better then I can :) And Keep me informed!

Well mom was just trying to nurse you back to health. LOL. I love potatoes but they are bad!! LOL.  Well I'm hoping that I'll be one of those lucky ones and not be affected by weight gain. I would hate to gain my weight back after all the sacrifice. So how do you feel now are you atleast feeling like your back to normal. I am so ready for having my hysterectomy I'm just waiting on my PCP and OBGYN to come to an agreement. My PCP agrees that a hysterectomy is the best but my OBGYN feels that I need to wait. Don't know for what but he says he just won't perform that type of procedure on anybody and their sister. But my PCP is the one who's taking care of me and doing all the required tests to confirm that it is actually nessasary. Thanks for the website info I'm gonna try that. Want to go into this fully informed and ready for what ever happens afterwards. Will keep you posted and please let me know how you're feeling since you've already had your hysterectomy.

Thank you,

Liz

I'm glad your feeling better. Its gonna take sometime but you'll get there. I am still waiting to hear from my PCP. I actually called her yesterday but their office was closed. I really want to get this over and done with. I am actually kind of worried with the recovery part only because I don't have too many vacation days left so don't know if I will feel up to coming back to work in a week. I think I only have about a wk left of vacation and I can't afford to take anytime off without pay. I work in an office and sit all day long basically. I do get up and help a few customers that might come in and pick up stuff but I have no heavy lifting duties other than pencils and pens. LOL. I am pretty good on tolerating pain so I don't think I should be bad in that part. I was really good when it came to my WLS. I was back to work the next day after I was released and I drove myself to work. I had open RNY with a drain for a month after my surgery. Also I hope I can have it done asap I feel alot more cramping and pain when I'm not on my period and my period is so out of whack even with BCP's. I hate being this way and can't wait till it happens and don't have to deal with periods or anything else. I don't mind having to take hormones and what not as long as I get this situation taken care of before I have to pay my deductible for my insurance. LOL. Well feel better and take care of yourself and keep me posted on how your feeling would like to keep in contact with you.

Sorry I did have it private. I changed that already so feel free to message me when ever you get a chance. Thats great news!! I'm so happy for you. See just have to have a little patience. Now you can start back on your WL journey. Well as for me. I spoke with my PCP earlier this morning and basically what she said is my OBGYN wants to keep an eye on it. Loser!! I have another appt with him in Sept. So he basically said that we'll make the call then. I think I'm going to have to start getting really harsh with him! He just doesn't understand how this is affecting me!! But come my next visit he will!!! Thats for sure. No more being nice. Its time I let the ***** come out to get my point across! Well take care of yourself and keep up the great work.

I am a fellow PCO er with IR, I had a hysterectomy last july, but kept my ovaries due to my age.
If you can have an ablation, that is a good start. I am off my Glucophage (metformin) since day 3 post op RNY . Are  your insulin levels still high with the weight loss?
I hope you find the answers, the hysterectomy is so difficult to do unless really necessary, would insurance do a total for only mild dysplagia??
